I read this memoir where a guy escaped from Iraq as a Kurdistan refugee and went over the border into Turkey and Iran, he hid in caves and foxholes and had to shoot wolves and bears. Eventurally he made it to Pakistan and Afghanistan where he got rerfugee status by the UNCHR and ended up in New Zealand
where there are no wolves or bears
although there are still mad crazy people with guns who roam in gangs in nz so...I dont know if its THAT safe from predators. Though we dont have an execution style govt anymore. (we used to, apparently, death by hanging)
we also have lots of honey and the parliament building is called 'the beehive'.
I just wondered since when did bears change from wild animal that could maul you to pieces into cuddly teddy bedtime companion?

Yes we did. People put them in their windows or at their mail boxes esp when the heavier lockdowns were on and people were not going into shops except for essentials. We were allowed out for exercise and walks and it was done to keep the kids calm and happy. It became a game for the kids to see how many bears they could spot. Some people were very inventive the way they displayed their bears. It was kind of cute actually and I admit enjoying seeing them when I would go for a walk. It was a nice relief from the constant covid barrage.

there was an Elvis Presley song about teddy bears but the lyrics are kind of disturbing
put a chain around my neck. and lead me anywhere?
theres also the teddy bears picnic..its not actually meaning a wild bears lunch.
although some bears are vegetarians, like pandas and koalas.

I never read 'We're going on a bear hunt' until I worked in a school library and even after reading it I dont know if the story would have appealed to me when I was child

But clifford the dog seems more popular.
The Berenstein Bears books are kind of 'preachy' but in a good way
however they are probably not that fun for children to read, Its more books parents would read to teach their children morals because if they were an actual human family it would be too saccharine to stomach
