If only that could happen for the rest of us. I hate to tell you this, but not everyone gets what they want in life. Not everyone gets a "happily ever after."

It's because of this that single people like me are leaving the church in droves. Once you're post-college and single, especially if you're a woman, churches generally don't know what to do with you. We're tired of constantly hearing sermons about what we'll never have. I know I am.

It hurts to hope and it hurts to care, so I stopped. I don't want to waste my life hoping for something that likely will never come.
My church doesn't have constant sermons about what you'll never have. It's a good ol fashioned southern Baptist church.
Maybe you should go to a different one.

One thing I really can't stand about being a Christian is the fact that it's almost impossible to be a single person and a Christian without growing to hate your sexuality. Any itch, any feeling of sexual desire is only a temptation, or an occasion to sin. In other words, the sexuality of a single person is only a "gift" if it is completely dormant and inactive. It serves no useful purpose. It doesn't help you find a spouse, it doesn’t help you become a saint.

I know that my sexuality is not entirely useless. It is a cross, anxiety, frustration, and sadness. I know that what doesn't kill me will ultimately make me stronger, and if my sexuality doesn't crush my soul, I'll ultimately emerge a stronger Christian. But how many crosses can I bear? Quite frankly, I don't know how I can bear this one.

I don't know if I'm supposed to get married or not, but it just doesn't seem fair (Not that I'm expecting life or God to be fair). If I get married, my desires will suddenly become good. But as long as I am single, my desires will remain vile and wicked. Or rather, as Christian teaching has it, my sex drive is good, as long as it doesn't exist. If it exists, then it's bad.

Just because I'm a Christian doesn't mean I have to like everything about it. But again, I didn't become a Christian to be happy. I did it because it's right. In fact, Christianity is the last religion I'd recommend if you want to be happy.

Bottom line, as I said before, God doesn't exist to make you happy, he exists to glorify himself. My happiness and yours are irrelevant. There can only be one or the other. My happiness or God's. And God must always come first. Besides, happiness is superficial and lightweight. Trying to be happy in a fallen world is like trying to breathe in the ocean. Doesn't work. We're called only to be principled and good. That's the only reason to be a Christian, if you want to do good, and if you don't want to go to Hell for eternity.

I know what I'm saying will be unpopular. But Jesus's sayings have always been unpopular.

We are not angels.
Yes, we are.
can you prove otherwise?

It's been "almost done" for 2000 YEARS.
That seems kinda silly,
almost done for 2000 years?
how did you learn that?
I've yet to meet a single person with an ounce of biblical knowledge that believes we are angels. Usually the people that may believe that are into fruity beliefs or have never read the bible. Since you're making the bizarre claim it falls on you to prove it.

If you were to ask me what an ideal Christian looks like, I'd probably say this.

Someone who lives like a monk/nun. Someone who knows the bible backwards. Someone who spends their waking hours in prayer and goes about doing good deeds during the day before returning to solitude at night. Or maybe a missionary who wanders from village to village preaching the gospel and getting calluses on their knees from fervent praying.

You'll notice I didn't include happiness. Because being a Christian is not about being happy or feeling good. It's about living entirely for others and God, no matter how much it hurts.

Why you worried about being happy, or better yet, why you think something will make you happy? Being happy is completely on you. No one, and nothing is responsible for making you happy.
Try acting happy. If you do that for awhile, you will be happy. When you're happy, some guy will ask you on a date, you'll sucker him into marrying you, then he'll take care of that itch you got.

I already tried. It made me feel like I was lying.

And 90% of sins are committed because someone wants to be happy. So it's obvious to me that wanting happiness is bad for you and others.

The ideal Christian more resembles someone that has a paying job and a trade.

Yeah, but 83% of statistics are made up on the spot.

That's kinda silly to think acting happy to become happy is lying.
Does a guy who eats Keto and lifts, lie about being fat?

I'm talking about pretending to be happy in church and knowing you're faking it.

Just stop going to church. It's obviously causing you distress.

Church isnt there to make you feel "happy"..its like dating a guy and anlways expecting HIM to make you feel happy..Church is a fellowship of believers (and some non) admitying that they need Christ in thier life and want to worship and learn mote with other like minded people..not perfect by any means..btw..perfect people dont need church..its all in your heart. Youre happy from inside out so faking it doesnt fool God a bit regardless if youre at church..home or anywhere..worship etc is meaningless to Him if youre just going thtough the actions..so if thats the case..save yoirself the time and effort..dont go to church but focus more how your heart is ;)

Problem is, I only do it 'cause I'm supposed to. Otherwise, I have no motivation. I've sought God and fulfillment from him plenty of times before, and it's never lasted.
