Regarding indulgences, these were once a practice in certain parishes and dioceses but never part of the official doctrine and have not been in effect for a certain number of years. Of course, these were to of no effect. They may have eased the conscience of the guilty but had no bearing in eliminating the sin. Worthless.

Correct! They instead reduce temporal punishment. They involve repentance, prayer, alms giving, adorations, and the like.

I recently attended Divine Mercy Sunday. There are indulgences made available, though not advertised. Cost to me? Zero.

The corruption was long ago and was the exception rather than the rule

Just to clarify, reduction of temporal punishment is not forgiveness of sin.

Confessions were, however, made available for that.
