Yes here too, but that was an exception to the rule. It never made sense to me, so most of the time I just let it down.
When I was a kid sometimes someone would put that extra thing down and then someone else in a hurry or sleepy didn't look. Now that was annoying.
Here in some toilets you have signs with: Men put the toilet seat up, because women like to sit dry. My ex always said it had to be up in case men visited, so it wouldn't become a mess. Maybe he was right if they have those signs.

Lol, coby that's the first time I've heard of a dude getting mad about a toilet seat...mostly I hear women complain about it but rarely dudes maybe cause dudes aren't vocal and just groan while putting the seat up? lol......interesting discussion here....
In Dutch the not so decent word used for complaining and nagging is the same that's used for peeing. So if someone complains about toilet seats you simply say: stop peeing.
