Hey Everyone!

I was at work today and a couple of guys were talking about their weekend plans... One was saying that he's going to the midnight showing of "Fast Five" (of the Fast and Furious franchise) and the guy he was talking to said, "Oh MAN!!! I would LOVE to go see Fast Five..." (then he dropped his shoulders and rolled his eyes in utter disappointment) "but my girlfriend won tickets to see Water for Elephants... who wants to see Water for Elephants?!!"

I couldn't help but laugh at this! Ah... the things a guy will do for love!!!

What kind of movie would you all rather see on a date--sappy, romantic, bring-your-own-hanky-type flicks or loud, eye-candy, bring-your-own-earplugs-because-of-all-the-explosions/heart-pounding action? (How about all the other types of movies out there... historical, drama, horror, or real-life story like The King's Speech?)

I myself prefer a good action (martial arts, Terminator, Vin Diesel, etc.) or sci-fi movie to a sappy chick flick any day, but that's just my opinion (sorry, "Elephants"... I've got a need for speed and high-tech weapons!) I guess the thing I don't like about most romantic comedies is that there's always some couple that "hooks up" in some artificial/drunken mayhem and the rest of the movie tries to tell us this, somehow, is "love" (ack.)

Now, I know action flicks sometimes try to throw in a love interest (or at least several scantily-clad women, unfortunately), but at least there are usually a lot of big guns, crashes, explosions, and special effects to keep my interest!! Several years ago, our youth group was going to go to the movies... and while all the girls wanted to see Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, I wanted to see Terminator Salvation... (which turned out to be a huge disappointment, but hey... you can't win, or smash, 'em all.)

How about all of you? Which type of movie would you prefer to take your date to? OR, would you sacrifice your own interests... and be willing to watch something out of your usual comfort zone?

(I'll try MOST anything EXCEPT horror--for some reason, I am a huge chicken. A friend once DESCRIBED the Blair Witch Project to me years ago when it came out and I still had to sleep with a night light for a week!)

I must be getting old because I used to scoff at any movie that doesn't have explosions in it. Now I like everything from action to drama to documentary to tween and teen movies. The only movies I won't see are any movies involving gangsta life or certain mockumentaries that might be offensive.

My favorites are probably old Clint Eastwood movies where he plays inspector Callahan (Dirty Harry), although I love his westerns too.

I'd watch anything out of my comfort zone, although I'd have my fingers crossed she wouldn't be into Zombies or Twilight

Personally on a date I could go for a romantic film....for obvious reasons, although there are rarely any good ones.
If I were choosing just for me, which I wouldn't be on a date but I'd prefer a historical film like The Kings Speech...although I haven't seen that one yet, I like those films because in the broad strokes they are true and not some made up stuff designed to appeal to certain traits but are actually nowhere close to realistic and yet fall into the non-fiction category.

The added plus is that historical films are often quite inspiring or at the least thought provoking, and it'd be nice to be able to have an intelligent discussion about the film afterwards that went beyond how the gilr in question just loves that vampire guy from Twilight.

If its a date, the movie can't be too awesome or I will have to choose between her and the Movie. 'Batman Begins' taught me this, it wasn't even that great of a movie but because I wasn't making fun of it the whole time, I "Ruined it for her."

Movies for dates... Sort of middle of the road movies, that have something for everyone like Indiana Jones or Toy Story 3.

As far as seeing FastFive, I was one of those guys who went out and modified my honda civic after seeing the first movie (The Fast and the Furious) when it came out. It defined a whole new genre of motorheads (if you can really call them that). Thank God people have finally stopped putting huge wings and wheels on their little hondas and toyotas lol. I didn't put any wing on mine. All my mods were performance mods. I did put some stickers on though.

Anyway, I've been disappointed by most of the sequels to that first movie. The only one I thought was good was the one where Vin Diesel was building that awesome black car which he also drove in the movie Triple X. So, I will wait for the reviews before deciding to see this new one.

How do you ruin a movie that sucks already :D

Guess you've gotta like movies that suck right from the outset!

I'm not sure I could stomach a Batman movie.....not even for love, the deep rough voice is so overdone I just can't help feeling despair, and sharing that despair with everyone around me :p

LOL!!! I'm picturing Liamson on a date during a "too awesome" movie and am guessing the inner dialog would be something like this, "MAN!!! Cool opening scene...er... or... her."

"WOW! That was a big explosion!!! (Maybe I need to glance over at her?")

"HOLY COW! I totally wasn't expecting that!!! (Wait, why am I here again?)"

"BIG EXPLOSION!!! (Oh yes, must remember to say something to her!")

"DID YOU SEE THAT???!! (Oh man, can't I just sit here and relish the moment or do I actually have to talk to what's-her-name...")

:D So THIS is what guys are really thinking when they take us to the movies! :p

One of my favorites is Gladiator. lol Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is gonna be better without the girl. Love the Karate Kid series!

I don't like chick-flicks.

But I love disney movies! I'm hoping to go see Gnomeo and Juliet soon. That'd be a fun date!

Gladiator!! Oh man... I was in France visiting my bro and he made me watch this movie on the morning before we went to visit the Colisseum (which was AWESOME.)

However, he had also made me this huge omelet with TONS of very squishy, gooey, creamy French cheese... Normally I don't have any problems finishing my food... but trying to eat this squishy omelet... while watching this very bloody movie with lots of "squishy" sounds (flesh being sliced to bits!) somehow didn't mix at the time!!

hahahah ew. I don't like omelets anyways, but I see what you mean.

But then I'm the kind of girl that can eat chocolate pudding and watch any episode of Dirty Jobs. haha

Hm. My posts here make me seem like a tomboy.

But I hate sports. And I like dresses. Not so much make-up though.

Actually, I think that was more her internal dialogue. Only she was making fun of everything, which don't get me wrong, hearing a girl do the fake batman voice of Christian Bale was priceless. But there were other people in the theater who thought less of it.

So I guess much like yourself, if a movie is suppose to be good and actiony, you will go out of your way to make it "Extra Entertaining."

And my other vote, was for foreign dramas. Like "12" or "Pan's Labyrinth" or "The girl with the Tattoo who plays with fire and kicks hornets nests."

I acctually think movies are not the greatest date idea until you know each other a bit or have gone out for awhile. (3-5 dates maybe?) If your in a movie, your not talking etc. Your just sitting next to one another.

You should be spending time getting to know one another in those first few dates...and then when you get to a point of going to see a movie it should be fairly easy to pick one you would both enjoy...OR feel comfortable enough with one another to be able to compromise. (her type of movie one time/ his the next.)

Me personally, I enjoy a wide range of things. I don't think I can narrow it down to one genre or another. (but as Matthew said, Please no Twilight or zombies or anything of the like! *rolls eyes* )

Rissa, your posts don't paint you out to be a tomboy. I get more of a Band geek/ niche crowd feel. As if to truly understand you, I would have to be very close to you, because appearances can be deceiving.

Probably wrong^

Eh, i agree with grace. Im not a huge movie fan for dates. What's the point? Don't you want to get to know each other? If we did end up seeing a movie, I'd go for something funny and animated - like Despicable Me, Kung Fu Panda or MegaMind. I have certain standards for movies i watch, and i wouldnt accept a date with a guy who didnt have at least similar views when it comes to movies.

Absolutely agree, Grace. If I'm going out to see a movie, I like something funny or an action movie. Great movies that make you pay attention, hang on every line, cry and/or try to figure out the ending are the kind that you watch on the couch together later in the relationship when silence is comfortable and talk is not so important. :)

True, I suppose that was where I was going when I said 'middle of the road' movies. Because, you can do anything you want, talk or not talk.

And Orchids, in my experience girls can be really busy people. Being in a movie is about the only way to get them to hold still for 2 hours so that non-phone or text conversation can be exchanged. Some Women like things to be scheduled and official. Meeting for coffee and talking for 3 hours may not fit into their life. (then again, guys like me typically don't either.)

So there you go... it depends on the girl. I guess guys should just take it in stride and figure out if the girl they want to date is a movie-type person or a talk-over-coffee type.
