Foxe's book of martyrs is probably one of my favorite Christian books of all time.

Yeah I think any biblical man or woman should be prepared to lay down his or her life for the Gospel if that is what it comes to. The bible is explicitly clear in Matthew 10

But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

Hey, those are lyrics, but I didn't want to post the original Bob Marley song because it has some swearing in it. :)

I think everyone who's ever been stuck at home watching TV in the dark at night has heard that song. It became the theme song for COPS. Inner Circle was the name of the group as a whole who performed it.

One of the best books ever written outside of the Bible of course. :)

He taught me the difference between Christian Pop culture, Tradition and Christianity. How Christianity will never be about buying the T-shirt, having the fish on your car or attending an epic moving worship service.
Are you saying you won't be buying this T-shirt?

A ''bad boy'' I can think of, though I think he was really a nice good guy, but not the Nice Guy  (geez, these terms are getting confusing) is Casiodoro de Reina. He is not very popular among English Speakers of course, but he was the first one to translate the Bible into Spanish, even before the Bible was translated to English. He was a monk who, upon joining the Protestant Reformation, went into exile and wrote against the Inquisition. We owe to him the revered Reina-Valera Bible we have today in the Spanish speaking world.

A more modern hero would be Martin Luther King Jr. For obvious reason. His non-violent yet passionate approach to injustice is an inspiration to me. Christians shouldn't remain silent when injustices arise, and he is an example of that.

My favorite "bad boy" was William Wilberforce. His life's work drove him to fight against the "Christian" establishment and their ideas of what is acceptable, or even reasonable. He fought his whole life, sacrificing health and fortune, to end slavery in England. People thought he was crazy because he was always taking in injured animals, the poor, and the sick. That's my kind of man: someone who lives his faith even when it's not "proper" or convenient, when it gets messy and even a bit dangerous. That's a bad boy worth writing home about.

I don't think I'll even bring up my hatred of meatloaf until I get serious about someone...... then I'll spring it on him and let the chips fall where they may. :p

I LOLed at the Mary t-shirt!!! I hope I never see anyone wearing that, or I will punch them in the face. I don't believe in religious clothing freedom some days :p.

For me, Moses would be one of the biblical bad boys.

He killed a man in cold blood, and his anger kept him out of the promised land, yet he still led an entire people through the desert and saw God face to face without dying. When it was all over, God Himself buried Moses, so the newly formed nation of Israel could not make an idol of his resting place.
According to Josephus, Moses was even more than the Bible made him out to be - he was appointed general over Pharaoh's armies, and was himself the linchpin in several of Egypt's military campaigns. It was specifically because Moses was such a decorated man of war that Pharaoh would even grant Moses an audience when he came back from his self-imposed exile. It's also how Moses was able to command an entire nation and take them out of Egypt.

Suddenly, all of Moses' reasons for NOT wanting to be Yahweh's spearhead when He spoke to him as a burning bush REALLY become the poor excuses for a man who just wanted to be done with being a leader, huh? ^_^

I never knew about that! That makes sense for why he was still allowed into Pharaoh's presence.

Though, I always thought Moses wasn't a great speaker (he told God this), but I guess a war general doesn't necessarily have to be great at speaking? Or you're saying it was just a lame excuse that wasn't really true?

I know it's more of an "artistic interpretation", but The Prince of Egypt is still one of my favorite movies. :D

Moses' was raised by Pharaoh's daughter...but we're talking about a day and age where a king would have LOTS of daughters. Because, you know...LOTS of wives, and therefore, lots of children. Moses was still a child of a slave race. He was given a little more privilege than his kinsmen, but he was in no way treated like a prince.

One of the best band directors I've known had a terrible stutter. It was sometimes comical to watch him try to get certain sentences out. But we didn't respect him any less because of it. And when he was furious or just straight up intense about the music, no stutter. It would vanish. I suspect Moses had an impediment, but in his moments of authority and boldness, he could overcome it. Also, good leaders (including generals) delegate a lot. God knows this - that's why as soon as Moses tried to use it for an excuse, God basically snapped back, "Delegate to Aaron, then." ^_^

I vote for Joshua and Caleb.
Even in their older years they still had that same "Let's DO this thing!" attitude. :)

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Paul. He got so stoned that they thought he was dead...

On a more serious note, Paul really was quite the rebel. Getting kicked out of villages for preaching the resurrection, getting arrested and jailed... Not many could really claim that!

Actually I was thinking of Paul too.

He spoke in front of kings, and rulers, and wasn't overwhelmed.

And he even stood up to and opposed Peter and the Jewish group at Antioch when he began to separate himself from the Gentiles. Even Barnabas had joined in the hypocrisy.

I think Paul was very cool for that, considering that Peter was an elder.

He still stood by his conviction.

Also, I am among the people who don't get the ''bad boy'' term (not an American), but going by your definitions, then, well and good.

I think from all the people you've mentioned, I'd like to say, aren't bad boys then synonymous with crusaders?

Crusaders for Jesus, for faith and for justice.

Some really cool people were mentioned. Thanks! :)

I thought of Paul. I was too lazy to put any thought into explaining why.
