I guess my biggest issue with the argument that says if gun laws were different, shootings like that wouldn't happen, is that criminals aren't going to follow gun laws. Laws can stop them purchasing guns and ammo, but if they REALLY want to get their hands on a weapon, they will find a way to do so.

Wasn't it the elementary school shooting where the guy took his mom's or dad's gun? Man, I need to pay more attention to these things.

But the point is, gun laws get more strict, and tie the hands of people who would only protect themselves and their families, while criminals still do whatever they want to do.

And all I'm saying is that if someone's going to even so much as threaten me with a gun, I don't want to be standing there twiddling my thumbs.
But they over here the gun laws are strict and yes we do still have some criminals but we have massively less shootings! Crazy people will always be crazy but it needs to be harder for them to get what they want. If gun laws were different then his parents wouldn't have had a gun therefore it wouldn't have been there when he wanted it.

I know this carefully chosen specific immage doesn't speak across the language barrier to all of you, but it's all I'm going to say on this. My soap box needs the day off, I'll let someone like Jullianna take this one up if she chooses to, but I'm done ;)

Be it a gun, knife, tazer, mace, or "fists of fury"... Never carry a weapon that you don't know how to use well, never draw a weapon without the intent to use it, & never use a weapon unless the outcome of successfully using the weapon is superior to the outcome of not using it (eg, you have to explain to the homicide detective that it was in fact self defense or the defense of another is superior to an innocent person being the victim.)

Alright, Keychain Check! How many peeps have mace?
How many of you known how to use it?
(These are rehtorical questions that I would rather you ask yourself and, if necessary, amend the answer to the second one.)
Absolutely teach your daughter how to defend herself, I can, I did karate. There is a massive difference in a brawl and a shooting. I mean no personal offence when I say this but I think the USA attitude to firearms is terrible. I don't understand how people feel it is a right to carry guns, its like saying it is just fine to shoot and possibly kill someone.

And just btw, I carry no weapon. No knife, no mace and definitely no gun although I am a great shot.

Interestingly enough, violent crime statistics here in the US show that those areas with tighter gun control laws have higher violent crime rates.

2011 statistics stated that calafornia had the highest rate of gun homicides which was 68%.

that it is. its one of the least gun friendly states. (pretty much any state controlled by liberals is going to be very un-free)

The only heavy breathing I've done in the last 72 hours (if not longer) was while playing a high energy game of Laser Tag at a birthday party with my kids. :D

Okay, this wasn't someone saying something to me, but something super creepy happened tonight, and I need to share it somewhere because I feel crazy for it.

I was on my way back from hanging out with friends. It was raining, and dark. There is gravel road/ally that goes behind the street of my houses that I use to get to the back garage (it's hard to explain). I pulled into the ally, and I have to drive past a couple of houses before I get to mine. Up ahead, in the rain, I see someone squatting in the backyard by the road. At first I thought it was a guy and that he was..um, pooping in the backyard. That's what I thought. But as I got closer, I realized it was a girl (mid-20s maybe) and she was wearing a jacket and underwear, and her hair was stringy from being wet from the rain. So I thought, okay, so it's a girl, maybe drunk, relieving herself outside in the cold rain for some reason. She stumbled to stand up, and I thought Ha, yeah I'd get up and walk away if I was doing that and someone drove up on me.

But she didn't walk away.

She started walking TOWARDS MY CAR as I drove closer to her. And she had this look on her face, I swear she snarled at me. She did something strange with her mouth, and it was NOT a smile. Her teeth looked a bit red, but I couldn't really tell.

I got so freaked out, I floored the gas pedal, got to my house, parked the car in the garage (I didn't bother backing in, which is what I usually do, I just wanted to get in), ran inside the house, and locked the door.

I told my parents about it, and I asked my dad if we could take his car back through the ally, because I thought, well maybe she needs help? I don't know. So my dad and I drove back through the ally, but there was no sign of her.

I feel crazy, but I know what I saw. She reminded me of a zombie and my heart still hasn't slowed down. What a night for it to be dark and raining and see a crazy person in my ally.

Where do you live, Rachel?? Is that a regular occurrence?? :D Just kidding. In the interests of fairness, I should state that my backyard has been defiled my such a person before. (Not a friend or relative, for which I am thankful.)
