Do you know what the earring represented in olden times? If I am correct it was used to represent the relationship between a master & servant...when the master would release that servant, making him a free man...sometime the servant would continue to wear the earring because in his heart he still wanted to serve that master. I heard a whole teaching on this once...now as to the 100% accuracy of this I am not sure, but I do believe,as with anything...with much prayer & seeking God,if your heart does not condemn you & the Lord wants to use this as a way to minister to people,I dunno. It could be. I have heard of christian tattoo artists,so why not someone who does piercings?
You're speaking about a bondservant. The Jews were required to release their slaves on the Sabbath year ('Year of Jubilee'), but if a slave was well treated by their master, they could choose to remain in servitude for life, as kind of both servant and member of the family, becoming a bondservant. The master and slave would go to the city gates (kind of like the town square in Jewish cities), and the slave would declare their allegiance to the master's family. Then the men of the city would accompany (as witnesses) the slave and master to the master's home, where the master would take an awl, and pin the slave to the doorpost of the master's house, representing the slave being joined to the house. After a designated span of time, the awl was removed, the slave unpinned, and a hoop placed in the pierced ear to designate the bondservant's status within the home. This is specifically the master/slave relationship Paul speaks of whenever he uses the term bondservant in his epistles.
