Can you play that canon joke in D major?

That would be an interesting study though. The people who keep saying each other is not a REAL christian, did they all grow up in church? You'd never get them all to participate because they're far too busy yelling at people who disagree with them (and if you got too nosy they'd just label you a false sister,) but if you could it would be interesting.

I'm happily surprised this has't happened yet.

Hey it could work! Hmm... we would need a shill, someone who hasn't posted in the BD forum or tangled with any of the debaters here. Get them to look through threads on the BD forum - which would require stockpiling ibuprophen before starting this - and write down everyone who says or implies that someone else is not a real christian. Then send each of them a PM asking them something like, "Hey I was just curious... did you grow up in church?" You could tweak it for better effect of course, maybe add a little flattery - "Cause I was reading some of your posts and you sound like you know a lot about the bible."

Maybe we could get lil_christian to do it for us. We can't use seoulsearch because I'm fairly sure she has tangled with some of the debaters before. And I of course would be completely out.

I feel like David and Uriah here...

Lynx is trying to put me on the front line!!! :D And what is this, "We can't USE Seoulsearch..." What am I, some kind of trained monkey writer?! :)

However, I'm sensing the makings of a poll in the back of my mind... It wouldn't be a for a while though. I'm frazzled enough as it is right now... Though... Sigh.

I'm normally not a competitive or "take on any kind of challenge" person but there are a few I have a hard time resisting...

Lord, Lynx is tempting me!!!! Do something about that, please.

No Willie-T, I haven't seen you questioning people's salvation. It wasn't me.

And seoulsearch we can't use you specifically because you have tangled with them before. They would recognize you, just as they would recognize me. But everyone likes lil_christian and I haven't seen them blasting her for anything she said... at least not yet.

Just because I've done the tango doesn't mean I wouldn't try a waltz...

I agree though, I think Lil' Christian is one of the most beloved people here. Then again, come to think of it... I also nominate PopClick, Grace-Like-Rain, Fenner, and ViolaKat. :D

I grew up in church, but the doctrine that was taught in Kid's Church had holes in it. I would raise my hand to ask questions, and the adults could never answer my questions. And then there was the hypocrisy I saw in both the Kid's and Adult church. My mom talked about God at home, and we had to watch Praise the Lord with Jim and Tammy Fay Baker. They didn't bolster my opinion of Christianity at all. So, I decided by the age of eight I didn't want to be a Christian. By the age of nine, witchcraft had found me, so that's the path I took.

The only reason I am a Christian today is because Jesus is exactly who he says he is. The body of Christ still sucks. They don't know the word, they can't agree on what the bible says even though it's in plain English (or whatever), leadership tends to be a group of divas (it's why I left my last church, I was leadership and just couldn't handle it anymore). The vast majority of the time I want very little to do with the Body of Christ. It reminds me far more of the world than it should. However, I'm one to talk. I've got my problems, I've got my worldly ways. So I'm gonna go over there and remove my plank.

I'm going to say something controversial here by here goes:

Your understanding of God, should not come from your parents, your peer group, your school, your church , your pastor, your political party, your Military, Fox News or any other group.

Your understanding of God should come from reading the New and Old Testaments and prayer.

That's not controversial. That's biblical, and it's not what Fenner means. She probably should have used words like introduction, basic premise, establishment, etc.

However, you have successfully Jesus Juked this thread. Congratulations!

I was not raised in a Christian household at all, in fact I am hoping to see my dad saved sometime soon. I am actually glad I wasn’t raised in a church family, I think I would have bucked it too hard. I had to go through a lot of life before I was ready to submit myself to His will, but at the same time I thank Him every night for saving my while my boys are still young so I can raise them with truth. I also feel it was key in my overnight, biblical, Paul-like, regeneration. I mean when He saved me I walked around for a month with my jaw wide open in total shock that all this stuff was REAL, and this was after 5 years of thinking I was a Christian already. It was a powerful rebirth and everyone who knew me saw the power of God. I guess I can’t say all that without leaving the link to the whole story, testimony to Gods glory in my life. It's long but worth a read. Just in case anyone wants more details. ALL glory to His mighty name.

well,
nobody knows me on this forum so i'll just speak the truth (as always)....

like you said. that's true. somehow the scales fell from your eyes and you could truly see. good.
that's just like the blind man - no one could heal him, but Jesus did - and the man didn't even know how.(or even who healed him for a while!) ....

it's also like the woman with infirmities all her life until Jesus healed her on Yahweh's Sabbath. no one
else could heal her (or no one did anyway), but many doctors kept on taking all her money all her life (just like today most often) ... Jesus healed her. just like Jesus healed you. (and a few others)...

the other
post about parents is a bit touchier/ harder.... Yahweh says that parents should bring up a child in the way he should go (live),
but so few do, and so few churches teach anyone how to, (parent or live right),
it's extremely awkward finding out the truth.... at any age (birth to 112)....
\
still,
Yahweh is absolutely true to his word and faithful ---- WHOEVER SEEKS HIM WILL FIND HIM. that's always true.
(yes,
in 'english' and in most groups,
without life full meanings of
"SEEKS HIM" (like, "in truth") like "willing to do whatever He says",,,, and so on
there "appear" to be exceptions..... or people think so anyway....)

Whenever I have a little friendly debate with an atheist,
sometimes the athiest will say,
"You only believe what you believe because you grew up in a Christian home.
If you'd grown up in a Buddhist home, you be a Buddhist, etc, etc. etc."

I can then honestly say,
"Nope, you're wrong. I never grew up in a Christian home.
Try a new theory.
I believe in God because... HE'S THERE!"

Those who grew up in Christian homes are very fortunate, and very blessed...
but there are all kinds of reasons that God allows all kinds of things.

He knows what He's doing.

He sure does Max. I always thought God was there but I found the whole thing confusing. I know with my own kid's I want them to understand the love God has for us. I also try to make the Bible understandable for them. I also pray that I'm doing the right things.

We have a guest speaker at our church this weekend who has this to say about one of the many influences he had in learning the gospel message.

"Karl Barth was the first one to teach me how to keep the gospel message separate from the way that some in the church misinterpret or fail to live it. This has always given me hope for the discipline of Christian theology. No matter how bad the church mangles it, the message manages to get through from generation to generation."

I wasn't really raised in a Christian home. My mom did read the Bible to me at night when going to sleep, but that was about it.
My grandparents were Lutheran, I did go to church with them a few times. In fact, me and my cousin went there a couple of years ago, just once. About halfway through (or less) we realized it wasn't for us. My gf in high school introduced me to Christianity, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I really became a true Christian in my heart.

My daughter goes to a Christian school, and ironically, she brought me to the Word. A 47yo man can indeed learn wisdom from his 11yo girl. through Christ. Really...:)

I was raised as a Catholic, went to Catholic school, attended church only on Christmas and Easter. The Bible was never touched, it stayed on the shelf in the living room collecting dust.

I established my relationship with God about 10 years ago while I attended Divorce Care at a nondenominational church near my home. I'm definitely happier now. I belong to a wonderful church and serve in the singles ministry group.
