Mental illness.
I was sharing about mental illness the on another thread and someone took exception to it, as if everyone is really sane.
What is disturbing is to discover all families are different, and if you thought your family had issues, there are always others with a different twist.
What I personally found most troubling is people you meet who throw you an unhappy story which you empathetically get involved with. What you do not realise is it is a sink hole, and the more you talk and get involved the more it pulls you in.
It is because the emotion of the individual has taken over and facts will be bent to fit the feeling rather than facts change the mood. The only answer is to confront the issue, call something wrong that is wrong and move on. If you do not it destroys you, literally. Unfortunately the well meaning and sincere who do not understand this sink hole are often the victims, and can be scarred by the experience. That is very sad, and is often why pastors do not last very long.
On the optimistic side with the right counselling and behavioural therapy people do change, and can become functional again.
