That's kinda like turn the other cheek, wouldn't you say? If someone refuses to thank thee at the first door, open for him the second door.

(I wouldn't open the second one either. Not going to encourage their rude behavior.)
That's a great point and obviously you're right, we are to turn the other cheek. When I was in the Navy, I held a door open for a captain and he didn't thank me. If you want respect, you have to earn it. In that instance I respected the rank, but not the man.

Yes, I understand. In that instance, you showed you have a greater understanding, appreciation, and regard for the military than that officer.
I was so impressed. A young Lt. showing the utmost respect to a much older and much more experienced (Korean and Vietnam Veteran) NCO. The NCO, likewise most respectful toward the young Lt. It was an incidental, but a most impressive one. Helped me see much about conduct, deportment, and respect.

Utah, you have strength.

I held the door open for three people today at QT while I was delivering mail. They all said thank you! :)

Mailmandan,

You deserve it. Seriously. You seem to take things light heartedly. Uhm. You don't conclude that some of us, such as myself, are being mean spirited with our not so polite responses.

You aren't overly sensitive. That's it.

Sure do...and I look them in the eye and smile. I also ask people who appear to be struggling with their groceries and other things if they need help and I like to try to make people feel significant and "seen".

Okay. I take it back. How about
Fall out.
Dismissed.
At ease!
Attention.
Left right left.
On my way now, on my way, hey, hey, I'm on my way. Gotta go now, gotta go now, hey, hey, gotta go, moving on now, moving on now, I'm moving on.

I hope that helps.
Now,

Carry on.

I like holding doors open, the grace in graciously accepting a proffered door. I also look people in the eye and smile. Far too often we're stuck in our own little worlds and generous kindness can make a world of difference to a person...and yourself.
