Does anyone have any stories they want to share about how/why they chose their favorite teams and athletes?

Sometimes the reasons why people root for certain teams (especially if they keep losing) can be pretty interesting...

I am a Yankees fan because my dad was so as long as I remember I was a fan of them. As for the Nets, I never followed an NBA team that much but when the YES Network (the Network the Yankees get their games broadcast) I noticed an NBA team the Nets were getting their games shown, and it went from there. My Nets aren't good, we don't get respect, most my friends are stinking Knicks fans but I love my Nets, we are the underdogs.

Fun! I love sports - watching sports - when I try to play it usually ends up in me needing some form of medical attention! I have too many favorite players, so will just go with my favorite teams.

NFL: Packers - my Dad grew up in Green Bay and my grandparents were season-ticket holders!
NHL: Chicago Blackhawks and the Minnesota Wild - one of my friends hosted "dinner and hockey" nights, and he is a great cook, so I started watching hockey - now I love it!
Football/Soccer: Manchester United - long story involving a very enthusiastic fan who was my seat-mate on a long plane ride - I agreed to watch a game just so we could talk about anything else, but he was right and I loved it!
MLB: Currently, I'm a Dodger's fan (this World Series has been awesome!), but normally cheer for the Cubs and the Brewers. My grandmas were both Cubs fans, I kind of had no choice!
