I was told a couple weeks ago that I'll never find someone to meet my standards, and that I'll end up being the crazy cat lady. I responded with, "Got any kittens?" I thought about it later and realized that I AM pretty picky. I have a mental checklist, and several what-if factors that come into play later in life. If I can't see certain things panning out in our relationship in the future, I get worried and bail. The guys I do this to are usually super nice and we get along great, but they just don't have their lives planned out like I do. Am I doing the right thing by ending it now, or should I focus on the here and now's happiness, chill out, and just see where things go?

I try to focus less on 'my personal checklist' and focus more on 'am i really worth having?'. This is often the problem with singles, they get so focused on what they want, and have these lists, and demands, and expectations, oftentimes not very realistic. But they give little attention to themselves and if they themselves are actually in place to be good for someone else.
I suggest putting less emphasis on what you want, and more on who you should be. Trust God to bring you a good fit, rather than you thinking you know best. I say read what a spouse she be. Talk to people in long healthy marriages and find out what they had to do to make it last. Marriage is about self sacrifice, ultimately, not 'what can i get from this person'. If you don't learn that, and learn to follow through with it you'll never have a happy marriage.

Supposedly cats are one of the most survival-inclined animals. Even if humans were to theoretically die out, cats would inhabit sky scrapers and eat all sorts of creatures.

Yeah, I think you have the right general outlook, but chilling out a little could pay off.

Thanks so much. I'll definitely keep this in mind.

Haha!! I've never heard that, but that's pretty interesting. I'm going to kinda combine what you and Ugly said. Unless someone is totally wrong for me, I'll chill out a bit and see where it goes. I've definitely got the time :)

Cats everywhere are preparing for this as we speak.

When i was 20 years old i was so scared about being old with those cats, but as the time passed, i just realized that its better to be like that than with 2 divorces and 4 children

AMEN! Far better to want something you don't have than have something you don't want.

Do you really want to be the crazy cat lady? Or are you merely using self depricating humour to bury your true feelings on the subject?

and no I don't need or expect an answer.

Wow... I have to remember this quote!!!!

And, the title of this thread is classic. ;) I do love cats, and I live at the end of my street... I'm highly picky about a potential future spouse...

So, I apparently have ALL the makings of a good cat lady... EXCEPT... that I am allergic to cats!! (Animal dander in general... and I don't want to get the shots.)

Any openings for a crazy goldfish lady, perhaps...

At least goats would give you quality cheese and milk.
