Oh I thought you knew the church already. When you said your future wife was in another country are you sure it wasn't in another part of Australia? Australia is a continent after all
she said France.
The forum I met her on, crashed before we could discuss anything further.
So the church which she goes to is unknown to me.

Please repeat after me;

"I love all my brothers and sisters in Christ here at CC",
"I love all my brothers and sisters in Christ here at CC",
"I love all my brothers and sisters in Christ here at CC",
"I love all my brothers and sisters in Christ here at CC",
"I love all my brothers and sisters in Christ here at CC".
up has the issue.

Hey, it's my thread!
you wanna leave the thread ?
leave this thread, and don't come back.
You obviously don't understand that part.
You might be confused about how a forum works. You can't just order people to leave because you started the thread. It's a conversation, not a soap box.

Well actually... you CAN order people to leave. How's that working so far? :p

If you have a problem with somebody there are multiple avenues of relief:
1. File a complaint with a moderator.
2. Put the person on ignore. This means you will not be able to see the person's comments.
3. Just roll with it. Life happens, there are parts of it we don't like, and we don't get to make every part of it suit everybody all the time.

apart from reporting or ignoring, am I supposed to tolerate accusations of being a troll ?

Pfft! I've been accused of being a troll many times on this forum.

I never let the opinion of others affect my actions unless the others are people I have reason to listen to, or unless I can verify by my own observation that they are correct.

As applied to a forum, it works like this: The moderators know I'm not a troll. I know I'm not a troll. The person calling me a troll is talking through his hat, as they used to say. So I have no reason to care if he calls me a troll.

Personally I'm not sure whether you're a troll. I'm leaning toward no, but still not completely sure. But even if I were completely sure that you ARE a troll, it wouldn't matter at all unless I could get a moderator to agree that you are. Unless or until that happened, I would only be one voice among many.

Usually it happened when somebody disagreed with me, I gave a rather sarcastic (but 100% accurate) reply, they couldn't refute it, so they resorted to calling me a troll.

This case is different though. You are being quite peremptory and didactic, as though you can control a thread once you have started it. You are also evasive when somebody asks you a question. I can see why people would think you are a troll.

Mind you, I did not say you are a troll. I'm almost certain you are not. But I can still see why people would think you are.

so someone is gonna call me a troll, simply because they can?
Or are offended by my style of communication.
So, they aren't happy, unless they can whinge.
Is that how it works ?

Except for that third line, yeah. You ARE a bit offensive in your communication, and people are free to say what they think.

You are free to file a complaint, put them on ignore, just ignore them... or modify your approach based on their complaint. (That fourth one NEVER happens, but I mention it because it is still an option.)

Bottom line: You can't control everybody. You can only control yourself. So somebody called you a troll... big deal! People call people names all the time. If you ARE being a troll, stop it. If you are NOT being a troll, ignore it.

I guarantee you, 💯% that I am not a troll.
I haven't abused anyone, by calling them names, why would I?
So, regarding ignoring, what do I do ?

The hardware option is to just ignore them, like you would in real life. Pretend they are not there.

The software option is to click on the person's avatar and hit the "Ignore" button. After that you will not see their posts. The forum will block what they say from showing up on your screen.

I have never used the software option because I don't like to not know when people are talking smack. But the ignore button is very popular with some people (and it seems to be gaining in popularity these days.)

Just remember that if you put everybody you disagree with on ignore, you are left with an echo chamber. No new ideas are ever introduced to somebody who puts all disagreement on ignore.
