I love guns... some people have a thing for cars I have a thing for guns.
Why? What is the facination? Is it a good guys/bad guys thing? I know with my nephews, they all enjoy playing 'pretend' gun games, and I often wonder what is the attraction...

Uh... seeing as I don't know what half the things listed in the title of this thread are (though I wouldn't mind having someone teach me), I'm going to have to go with water and toy guns... (though I love seeing the high-tech stuff in the movies.)

I've never been around a real gun in everyday life... I'm not sure how I'd feel around it, thought I wouldn't mind being taught how to shoot. It's one of those, "You don't know 'til you get there" things, at least, to me.

A gat is a slang term for a handgun or machine pistol probably deriving from the "gatling gun", Nine is any weapon that makes use of 9mm parabellum round, or possibly just handguns which make use of it. A shooter refers to first person shooting games CoD, etc.. And Glock is a series of handguns which can use 9mm .40 S&W .45 .45 GAP .380 ACP .357 SIG and range from Glcok 17 - 39

Wow... this sounds like a great start for an "Introduction to Guns... for Dummies" handbook! :) And, I don't mind being the dummy you would write it for! :D

Thank you for the explanation--it's very helpful... except that now I don't know what .40 S&W, etc. means...

There types of bullets, the .40 , .357 refers to the diameter of the bullet, or the diameter of the barrel it is fired from. This allows some ammunition types to be exchanged between guns, a weapon that fires a 5.56mm round can also fire .223 inch round.

I love them, between me and my dad we have too many haha but my favorite is my ak-47 , close 2nd my Mosin-Nagant. I hate how politicians try to come up with new ways of restriciting guns. The worst thing they can do is take firearms out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Criminals will ALWAYS have access to them, why should we not be able to protect ourselves, thank God for the 2nd amendment. When i have bought guns, my mind set was always for protection, protection for myself, protection for my family, friends, neighbors and yes even my country and hunt for food if it ever came to that extreme. I hope i would never have to use it on a person but if that time ever comes i wouldnt hesitate on taking them down. Anybody that is opposed to guns i think probably has never shot one before, never has been in a life threatening situation, or a blood sucking politician thats being payed off. The police will not always be there or be there on time so best have a piece of lead waiting for them when they come through the door.

Yeah semi auto and yes you could still get 7.62 x 54 its still in good supply.

As for shooter games, the only controversial game i would have to say is Grand Theft Auto, but it is still just a game. It just bugs me when games get pointed the finger for events that happen. Kid takes gun to school ect... Its bad parenting in my opinion, if they own the gun they didnt teach their kids not to mess around with them, or maybe they got it from somewhere else, parents should still be held accountable for not teaching there kids between right and wrong. Kids growing up these days lack guidance from their parents or lacking parents to begin with. My dad taught me to shoot a real gun when i was around 7 or 8 before that it was a pellet and a paintball gun. I have never once thought about using all mentioned recklessly and have always handled them with the utmost respect and caution.

lengthy 2 part video from a great youtuber about children and guns but its worth the watch YouTube - "Children of the Gun" by Nutnfancy, Part 1

Agreed, I also think people are just born messed up and if their gonna go on a killing spree their gonna go on a killing spree regardless of other factors. And I would say man-hunt was even worse than GTA, though there was less emphasise put on guns ;) Lol

I wouldn't object to my husband having guns. He could collect them if he likes. My dad did for a while. I would have no problem owning one myself, but my thumb (broken a few years ago) wouldn't take much kicking. I've looked into a derringer. I'm not a fan of hunting or sorts, so any gun would only be for protection.

I'm a woosey though. I would never do paintball or sorts. I like nerf! I've wanted a nerf gun with automatic rounds for a long time.

And so not a fan of video games. They're time consuming and I'm never good at them.

First of all...LOL@Nuke for creating this :) awesome! Be still my little cordite heart *thump thump*

1. I've had a thing for guns since the age of 9 when my family taught me to use one. I'm also an animal lover, so I'm a target shooter, not a hunter; though I have no issues with hunters as long as they eat what they shoot. It's a much more humane way to kill your prey than many of the ways used to provide the meat we find in our grocery stores.

As a former law enforcement training officer, I've done many studies and given many presentations on firearms/metallurgy, particularly Glock models.

2. I'm not a fan of concealed carry permits. I do recognize the need for some people to have them (I have one because of my job), but, from what I've seen, they generally invite more dangers and injuries than they prevent.

3. I am absolutely for the right to bear arms, but I think that since we require individuals to take training/tests to drive an automobile (which kill more people than guns do in this country) we should do the same for firearms. Most people buy weaponry they know nothing about and rarely take the time to learn more about it or how to use it rightly. In my mind we need to be stressing gun SAFETY far more than gun control. If you know gun safety, you know how to CONTROL your gun. ;) I do wonder why civilians need assault weapons...but they are pretty, aren't they? :)

Bad guys will always find a way to have bigger and better guns than law enforcement officers and the public at large. Imposing greater restrictions on firearms will never change that.

4. Toy guns for kids - I don't have an issue with this as long as they have close parental supervision for three reasons:

a. Toy guns can be mistaken for real ones and children have lost their lives as a result;
b. They can cause children to become more curious about the real deal, which can lead to danger if parents practice poor gun safety habits; and
c. A K9 unit does not know the difference between a cap pistol and a real gun - to them, gun powder is gun powder and they will take it at all costs if their handler is confronted, whether the holder is a child or an adult.

If you own a gun, know how to use it better than the bad guy who is likely to TAKE IT FROM YOU AND USE IT ON YOU IF YOU DON'T. And if you don't think you can shoot someone in defense of yourself or someone else, leave it at the store. Guns used for protection are used to kill, not wound. If you can't do that, don't even think about owning a gun because you will only jeopardize yourself and your family should that situation arise and you hesitate.

If you own guns KEEP YOUR CHILDREN SAFE FROM THEM, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... There is nothing more heartbreaking than a parent who has to deal with the loss of a child due to their own negligence. It will eat you alive and, in many cases, results in a parent taking his/her own life.

I don't have an issue with shooting games, but I do have concerns regarding the sort that promote violence rather than skill. I feel that violent video games and programs de-sensitize young people.

Where do I begin...

Okay Shooter games are horrible. I think they are senseless violence and no one should let their children play them. I am totally disgusted by them.

However, I do not have a problem with real guns/firearms. I think they can be used for many purposes, protection, hunting (for fun not sport), sport (target prctice on inanimate obbjects no animals or people), etc.

Whats you're beef with shooter games ?
Games are supposed to be fun. To me there is nothing fun about going around killing people, even on a video game. I think it desensitizes children to all sorts of violence by making life so expendable. Even f you try to put a spin on it so that you are the "good guy" trying to kill the "bad guys" it is literally making a game out of life and death, which is very disturbing to me.
