At least on 3 the original game was a bit more subtle about the subject matter. More throwing tidbits out mostly. But often enough that I began to notice. It wasn't until the gay marriage expansion pack that it really became straight forward. So perhaps you are simply missing it. Or maybe they hadn't started that yet.
There was a 7 year stretch between 2 and 3, so it's possible they simply hadn't added it in on 2 yet.
Well just enjoy the game. If it comes up you can decide how to handle it. If it doesn't no sense in worrying and ruining it.

Weellllll as turns out this morning while we were playing 2, my husband pointed out a weird innuendo said by one of the minions. I didn't even hear it (like I said, I have trouble paying attention ) but even if I did, it was so vague I probably would not have caught it. But yeah a right-out marriage is definitely crossing the line.
