Maybe I'm one of the oddball men. I don't waste away countless hours playing video games, and personally I don't understand the draw to them. I would prefer by far to sit around enjoying the company of friends.

I think it's more a case of whatever you find relaxing. I love my x-Box 360 and don't consider a few hours wasted by using it...oh, and I also spend plenty of time with friends! ;-)

The only games I enjoy are the RPG type ones and The Sim's. But I rarely play either anymore.

Help me out here. What is it with guys and gaming?

I like games where I get to shoot stuff because...well...because I get to SHOOT stuff. :D And I like Wii fitness/dance because I can actually move around and participate. But I really don't get it the addiction.

Maybe its like guys not understanding why women like shoes... :)

Juillianna, unfornately I am one of those gamers that gets addicted to games. and u wonder why we do?

well to me it is fun and helps me break frusteration.. then once my frustration is broken I want to always be on it so my frusteration is gone longer. I hope this makes sense to you Juillianna and whoever is reading it.

Ok i love games, but at least i'm different. I'm not trying to *Take Over The World*.:p ... Pinky and Brain have tried enough..:D :D..

I hate adventure games actually. Soccer, Fighting.. anything else, then count me in..

(Ok enough babbling.. Good bye)

It might be that inner competitive nature that drives some of us to beat the game. This might also include those of a similar nature when it comes to fighting games and multiplayer/shooting games. I don't really play as much as I used too. But I do at times, play a game of system link with a handful of kids when they come over to visit my cousin's kids. Halo Reach is popular with them.

Also every once in a while, I do play online. And I like that little thrill to gain the top spot. :p

I play video games because:

A) They let me do awesome things that I could never do/get away with in real life.
B) They have goals that are fun to obtain and when the goals in "real life" are not going well, it feels good to accomplish something in a video game, especially if it's difficult.
C) I'm a completionist. If a game has achievements (X-Box 360) that I think I can obtain 100% on, I will go for it like crazy. This is probably partially due to bragging rights and the satisfaction of knowing that I accomplished something that many others probably won't.
D) They're a ton of fun to break out at parties in the case of games like Rock Band.
E) In the case of FPS's, they make you feel like a hero, which is pretty awesome.

P.S. Batman: Arkham City is rocking my socks off right now. It's so awesome! :D

I'm a girl and I'll take a first person shooter over new shoes any day lol. I've never understood the shoe thing. At least games are interactive and you can get a group together to play them. Shoes only serve the purpose of "Aren't they cute, guys?" lol

Hmm... so your idea of finding a good christian wife is when a strange woman shows up practically naked and gives you a video game?......

Yes, you too, STICK to the JOYful topic at hand, LOL. But, no, seriously, and, I thought your thoughts worked responsively well to each other azulblue, and, ug, I began video games many years ago...

Brace yourself, go get some chips and soda, like zere said, kinda, sorta, and, Yeah, for me, growing up, vids were in my DNA. And, I will age myself but the first time I played pong was at a soccer exchange friend's house in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. I was 9 years old. And, Yeah, B.C. had video technology before my hip town of Seattle, WA. LOL. BUT, I played that game forever as pong arrived here shortly after Canyada-yada. Yada :D. So, then came a family trip in summer of 1978, to Vegas, and, I was 11. My sister and I were too young so we couidn't play the slots...

Now stick with me, the real joy of what I have to say is still on the way :D But, Yeah, I was mad because attendant told my dad, 'We have a area where kids stay while parents gamble.'

I was thinking, 'Great, I am getting put in a room with a bunch of books, b-oring.' So dad led my sister and I to this room , it was FILLED with video games arcade size I never saw before, Space Invaders, Starcastle, Asteroids, etc. THIS was Heaven. Thank you, God, I'm sure I said.

Well, ok, the timeline then went to getting my own Atari in December '78, that was an amazing gift. The next 6 years I played that thing forever. Then came college and didn't play video games much 1st three years but then 1989 was Nintendo, the original, and, I played Mario Brothers all the time. Finally, took awhile, but I killed King Koopa in the underground :D

Ok, so, moving on, I played, as kayM mentioned, Zelda 'Link' and I played that game all the way to winning that thing...4 years and no life later. No, just kidding, it only took me 3 months of playing all the time. But, not kidding about the 'no life' part :D

So, Yeah, guess, I've said enough, I did develop campaigns for friends with D&D , which was when 15, but that is another story, except to say, I think others said it well, like Keith Eldredge book, 'Wild At Heart,' we guys want to create and destroy and, as you said, too, KayM, we want to lead others when the stakes are high and we can take risks to win.

I personally only watched my friend's kid play Black OPs , Call of Duty xbox 360. Looked amazing, truly real, almost tooo real. I have grown different these days, from life , I guess but no interest vids any more.

The Lord leads. You and me. He can take any desire from us, and, we should be like Paul, be 'content.'. But Ibwonder if shopping for girls even God could curb. :D

Wow, we're from two different schools. I do not find games fun if there is no challenge or opportunity to build an empire of some kind. Then again, I never really relax my mind.

I grew up on RPGs (an almost dead genre, now), which to me, playing one is like reading a good book. They have characters I grow attached to, good dialogue, interesting stories and plot twists, and their fantasy themes often coupled with elements from modern culture make for an engrossing experience! All in all, it's a nice distraction from reality.

I'm currently working on Lunar. :D But seriously, if games like Chrono Trigger, Xenosaga, and some of the older Final Fantasy titles were still in good circulation/heavy production, I would probably be just as much of a gamer now as I was 5-10 years ago.
Lunar was proooobably my favorite RPG I ever played. :D

Well, I'm not a guy but I used to put in soooo many hours of gameplay a week! But I also played RPG's and a huge part of it was the fantasy aspect of it. :)
I think guys like to be in control, lead others, and experiencing an adventure that they otherwise couldn't.
Who doesn't want an adventure?! Lol
