To clear up the mystery: Ghosting is when someone gives you the private message or text message version of the cold shoulder. Stops talking to you and ignores everything you say. Ghosting is a lot easier than in-person cold shoulder because you don't have a person right there you are ignoring.

So... what brings this topic up? Did someone stop talking to you?

If he doesn't know that kind of ghosting is possible I'm not sure I should tell him...

Not everything on the internet is so new and original it needs a special name.

I just call it "not returning your message."

People have been doing it for years.

Ughhhh posting from my phone is problematic at times. I get my dose of daily news from yahoo.com. While I was scrolling down the news feed I saw an article called "Ghosting and why it's wrong". I figured it some new slang for tricking people into some form of scam or something. When I read what it was about- and Lynx was correct on the definition- I remembered a story of a friend who started talking to a girl on a dating website. They texted and chatted a lot. They decided to meet up one weekend and hang out- she lived a couple of hours away. They hanged for the weekend and had what my friend thought was an awesome time. Sadly, though, when he got back home after that weekend she never returned any of his texts or calls.:/

Apparently, she deleted him. Perhaps it was more fortunate than sad. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Time marches on - cool becomes rad becomes gnarly becomes tubular becomes cool again - but people don't change. The only thing that changes is the terminology.

So now we have a new term to add to the dictionary. (Actually it's a retread but we won't tell them that...)

Yeah, it's sad.

But it's not anything new.

I'm pretty sure AVOIDING people started back in bible times.

Pro 5:8
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

That's Solomon talking about GHOSTING!

Apparently he knew how ghosting worked, but he didn't really put it into practice.

When I first read the OP's post I thought he was talking about ghosting a hard disk or operating system, lol. I thought....why is that wrong? Yeah, first i've heard of the term being used to give someone the cold shoulder via text/electronic comms. Technology nowadays (nowadays lol) is pushing people to become very non-committal (more than usual). That, and the fact on how society portrays how dating should be (ehhhhh) is why i'm glad I don't have any kids, haha, and partly why i'm single #ForAlo :p
