More questions spawned by this thread:

What if God has a destiny for you and you know what it is, but you don't like it? What if God wants you to spend the rest of your life working at a fast food factory because God wants a christian influence in that workplace? Or more drastically, what if your destiny is to be killed by a bank robber, because you will say something to him that ten years later leads him to repent? Would you follow that destiny if you knew it?

On the flip side, what if you don't have a specific destiny? Would you still be a christian if you knew that God did not have a certain specific place He wanted you to be, and a certain specific thing He wanted you to be doing? Would the things the Bible says about how to live your life be enough, or would you look for something else to give your life some kind of meaning?
If you like stories of "but I don't wanna, God," (which I do, because I'm like that ), read Jonah.

If we don't wanna, God gets us to wanna -- by ship or by fish stomach.

OK.. I probably should not have posted that. (Can't delete it now) One of the tenets of our faith is Hope, and well as christians we are supposed to remain hopeful.... Faith Love and Hope... the three tenors... umm I mean tenets.

1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV:
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Whereas, 1 Cor, 13 is the chapter on what love is, Hebrew 11 is the chapter on faith and hope.

I have always liked this saying....

Choice not chance determines destiny.... We each have a choice....

Back to the OP Question...

We were created by God because He wanted us to have a relationship with Him..... Do we? Do we have that relationship of love with God?

I know for years I ran from God wanting to do my own thing, live life my way, you know have fun because that church thing was NO, NO, NO, Don't, Don't, Don't, and if you do YOU WILL GO TO HELL..... for insert anything you want to here....

We weren't only put on this earth to build a love relationship with God but to build a love relationship with each other. How well are we doing with that one especially after this last election? For me personally I didn't like the answer as to who I was and who I had become....

So time to re-evaluate and get back to what is the purpose? Well our directive is to share the gospel to turn folks on to building a love relationship with God...through Jesus.... and each one of us has been placed just where God wants us to touch the lives of those around us as each of us do touch so many different lives in any given day....

But you say I'm a shut in and hardly ever leave the house....well you talk on the phone, on the internet, answer the door if the bell rings or there is a knock.... you still touch lives and you were still put here to develop a love relationship with God.

Lots of us have or had jobs, relatives...(that maybe we wish we didn't)...lol..... friends, so many people that we are connected with how many lives have we turned into a love relationship pointing the way to God which is the ultimate love relationship? I am asking all these questions of myself too... You just happen to be reading my thoughts right now....

P.S. I love you.... God loves you more...

I'm glad you brought this up! It's what I'm going through right now. I have been in a bad cycle of not trusting God/$ issues so I get a job that I don't like/care for, then get depressed and/or around the wrong ppl (blue collar workers =drinking, smoking, bad attitudes in general) so I forget God for awhile until my soul cries out, get back on fire for the Lord then have to wait again.

Monday (2-20-17) I read my journal from 2004-2011. This is my cycle (obviously edited). I believe God as a calling for everyone!! Now that calling may be a mom or dad to one of God's generals. We as humans "see and hear in part" we have no idea what some of the lil humble gestures do.

Im feeling like I need to be honest here so I kinda know what my calling is = something along with be a pastor. It makes me nervous, it has huge responsibilities, no breaks, gotta follow the rules (I'll a wild child- following rules is NOT my favorite) , I don't enjoy reading or studying!, I have a hard time pronouncing many words and the list could go on.

A lil quote from my notes about Zechariah 1:4 -" if we live for the sinful pleasure of the world system, we too will miss God's plan for our lives and be FOREVER DENIED THE ULTIMATE BLESSINGS AND GOOD THAT HE INTENDS FOR US. All that to say, I'm tired of missing the blessings of God!! I'm speaking at church this Saturday night and believe it's a stepping stone! I have job offers all around but I'm staying home with my nose in His word and pondering what is next.

lol feel like I'm rambling, so much is going through my head. But thanks for bringing this up and letting me get stuff off my chest
God bless

Your list of reasons why you can't be a pastor, or why it scares you, reminds me of a point in one of my sermons. God gave you a skill set - that doesn't mean it's set in stone. God can modify it any time He wants.

I used to not be able to speak fluently. I still can't, really. I stumble, fumble for words... except when I'm preaching. When I'm on the stage preaching a sermon I speak very eloquently, fluently and fluidly. When the sermon is over and I put down the mic I go back to stumbling, fumbling for words.

When I have a computer that can't do what I want, I find a program that will work. Sometimes I find a whole new SYSTEM that will work (I'm a Linux nerd, I can find lots of whole different computer systems that are specialized for certain purposes.) Likewise God can add to your abilities to allow you to do what He wants you to do.

I remember this one guy who was at a camp meeting and God was moving strongly in the service, and suddenly God told this guy to go play the piano for a while. He didn't know how to play the piano, but he walked up on stage, sat down at the piano and started playing it. Played it for a good 40 minutes or so. Then when the service began calming down he got up and walked away, and to this day he can't play the piano. But for that 40 minutes he could play it, because God wanted some background music for the work He was doing in that service.
