When I was around the age of 22, I worked at a retirement home. I was a server and in charge of the other servers that worked there. I was the topic of some ugly gossip that went around. My boss who was only a few years older than me was a nice guy. Married had a child, very friendly and fun to work with. I didn't see him outside of work, I didn't know where he lived. I met his wife a few times and liked her.

A friend of mine that also worked there told me that someone had been telling others that my boss and I were having an affair. I was sick that people would say that. It wasn't true and if something like that got back to his wife, it could ruin his marriage. I went to my boss and told him what was going on. He did his best to put a stop to it. Eventually I moved on to another job. I don't know who started the ugly rumor or why, but I can tell you I was deeply hurt by it.

I've never come across gossip on CC. I don't gossip because it's wrong. I'm not saying I never have gossiped, but I know it's wrong.

The bible has many things to say about gossiping this is one of them:
Exodus 23:1 - You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. No matter who originates the accusation, we should not repeat and spread it unless we have substantial evidence it is true.


I didn't post this to start any drama. I just wanted to share how I feel about gossip.

Oh, but I'm saying this not to gossip - I'm speaking out of concern and Christian love...

Yeah, but that wasn't out of love. Not only that but me and my brudder put ourselves out there and now none of the women folk will even say "do you have any spare change".

It's true! It dawned on me that it's probably the same kid who leaves his laundry in the dryer every week so I'll fold it. If it happens again I'm going to check out the clothes and see if this is some sort of, I'm in college I found a surrogate Mom program.

Seriously though, I feel the same way about gossip, Fenner. Gossip is vomit of the worse kind.

I think this says something like the verse, "the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." We wish to not do gossip, slander, etc. but our flesh wants us to do it. Like Jesus at the cross too, seeing people poking fun at him as he hung in agony, 'Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.' Jesus knew that the people ridiculing him were just being led by the flesh and were really wanting to be praising Jesus ,like they were doing when he came in a week earlier, cheered on by the crowd as he road on a donkey through the palm trees. Can you blame them? Here was their promised Saviour who was going to deliver them from Roman rule, the Palm Sunday celebration for that reason a week earlier, 'yea, Jesus, yea, king Jesus,' being powerless looking to them and dying on a tree.

"For I am afraid that perhaps when I come I may find you to be not what I wish and may be found by you to be not what you wish; that perhaps there will be strife, jealousy, angry tempers, disputes, slanders, gossip, arrogance, disturbances." 2 Cor. 12-20

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parent.

Gossip is horrible, from the oldest to the youngest.
