Deade hasn't been here for 3 1/2 months.
I am concerned about his well being and the situation he is in with his son and his son's cohorts...

I hope he will check in with us here soon...

Let us pray about this. God knows, and He cares, and He wants us to pray about all things.

Sure is a blessing. The crackdowns they had in Australia would never have happened here in America. If law-abiding American citizens are prohibited from carrying weapons, the criminals who, by definition, are not law-abiding, will be the only ones with weapons.

There is a lot of gun crime of late for a number of reasons. 1) Fear of God has been kicked out of our schools and larger culture. It is a fact that the social ills we see today started ramping up after prayer and other Christian practices were removed from our public schools in he 1960s. 2) Leftist crime policies have intensified in their proliferation and insanity: no-bail laws, light sentencing, calling out cops as an evil that must be abolished, etc.

Finally, and on a larger note, do you think Russia would have been so eager to invade Ukraine if Ukraine still had nukes?

There are plenty of countries that are liberal and non religious that have much lower crime rates than America. That is due to the social safety nets that are readily available (i.e. socialized medical care, subsidized post secondary education, unemployment insurance).

The banned game thread was just a game I didnt think it had real power.

huh

I think sometimes if things get heated everyone needs to take a break, though Ive not noticed any major blow ups myself.

Personally I try to think on things lovely and true and of good report so, while there might be a zillion threads about a war going on, I wont bother reading them and go click on one about flowers...!

We've always had guns in America. Only in the past few decades have we seen this crazy uptick in mass shootings. There is a reason for that.

You want the State to have all the power. You trust people with power. Never a wise policy. We see this creeping fascism in Canada, low-crime, no-gun Canada. Australia. We saw it in Cuba, Germany, Russia, China.

We don't need less guns. We need more Christ.

It's not about the state having all the power. It's about making society unsafe by giving the masses easy access to firearms.
The status quo in America in regards to many issues are a complete failure.
The gun restrictions implemented in Australia, have made their society much safer.

Vox is a Leftist website that comes at things from a big gov't / statist point of view. This is the problem with too many Christians in America. They have become Leftists. They buy into the big-govt agenda, which is supposed to give government all the power to give us everything we want, but which in turn actually gives it the power to take away everything we have.

I gave you some points about the gun violence problem in America that you never addressed. This uptick has only been in the past few decades. There's a reason for that and I stated it. You ignored it.

When people were being brought into camps during Covid in Australia, I would not have defined that as safe for the population. I don't know if this went into law, but there was talk about an app people would be required to download onto their phones that would tell the State where you were at all times -- in the name of Covid safety. Rest assured, that power the State had gained once given would never be relinquished.

The people of Canada are now dealing with a prime minister who has selected who has the right to protest and who does not. He is squelching free speech. Is this your idea of justice? The people of Canada are not gun-carriers.

The populations of Soviet Russian, communist China, North Korea, Cuba, Mussolini's Italy, Hitler's Germany were not allowed to carry weapons.

Gee... that raises a thought. Maybe you're right. I mean, imagine if German Jews were allowed to carry firearms? OMG it would have been a bloodbath. Those poor, helpless SS.

Oh... and what about the African slaves in America? Imagine if they had firearms?? I don't even want to think about the violence those poor, innocent slave-owners would have endured. Maybe you do have a point.

Freedom is messy and there is no perfect solution. That's a Leftist idea, that humans are gods who can bring perfection (Heaven) to earth -- if they just have enough power because the citizens surrender enough of theirs -- like owning weapons.

Sorry, Heaven comes only when Jesus says its time to beat our weapons into plowshares. Only He can bring true utopia because only He can run an absolutist monarchy in a just and non-tyrannical fashion.

Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property... Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them. ~ Thomas Paine

Liberty is to be free from restraint and violence from others. ~ John Locke

Locke also asked the question, can the constabulary return your life to you once taken by an assailant? No constabulary I know of can do this.

To continue…

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. ~ John Adams

I will not stand for my right to life being removed because of someone else’s immorality. If you trust people with political power, believing them to become saints once so employed, that’s your prerogative. As for me, I will take the risks that come with freedom, because freedom is far better than any “safety” any government on this side of eternity could be entrusted with.

Addendum...

"It's not about the state having all the power."

It is. What you described in a previous entry was a government that should provide housing, food, medical care and our personal safety. That is total State-dependence. But you're right, that's not a government with all the power.

Additional quotes...

If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. ~ Federalist 51

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined, nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. ~ Thomas Paine

When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government . ~ Thomas Jefferson

And, going back to the original subject, I hope Deade is well and took whatever measures were necessary to defend himself. Though, I suppose if he took your tack and was not prepared with deadly force, somehow, that would be better for society.
