There are parts of this thread I am going to quote to my mother-in-law.

Really. She's 53...or 54? I don't know. She's old enough to know her own mind. Anyway, she's re-entered the dating world, and had a couple of short-lived relationships, but she's broken up with both men because she doesn't know how she feels about them. Despite having a lot of complaints that she shares with me about both men, she "doesn't know" how she feels. Despite telling me that they each have two or three things she Does like about them, but she can't stand the other things, she "doesn't know" how she feels. But now she's going to "try again" with one of them, to see if she can decide if she likes him or not.

Say what?

What is the point in settling for someone you're on the fence about? If you really like someone, you know. Go for it. It might be a mistake. But it's a bigger mistake to stick with a relationship when you need constant encouragement/permission from others to "like" the person.

Heck, I might just have my MIL read this whole thread.

Do you see the problem we have?
"We?" :p

Going over follow up posts, I think I understand the theme here, though I don't understand the purpose of the OP or the question posed. Do a lot of people face this sort of thing? Maybe I'm just clueless as to how prevalent it is.

 Do you mean the whole phase/process/etc. leading up to a "relationship" is scary and/or precarious to you?
