I have seen a couple ladies on the forum mention they have been subjected to some dirty old man types... I believe they should have mace and use it when they feel subjected to these kinds of men.....What do others think ?
I would suggest they use bear mace.

Mace is prohibited in Canada, at least it was when I was wanting to buy nunchaku (numchucks). I found out that they're also prohibited, btw, but that was almost thirty years ago.

About the most serious self-defense item we can carry is a Fox-40 whistle. I had one blown in my ear (foolishly, not because of something I was doing wrong) and it slowed me down for quite a while.

I think it's quite okay for a person who feels physically threatened to defend themselves and slow down the "attacker" but only in the case of "clear and present danger". Unfortunately, that is subjective. I'd suggest that those who do carry mace, (or numchucks ) use it when there is a physical threat (not just verbal), a means of escape, and without any warning.

Just my ivory-tower opinion. I'm blessed not to have been in a situation (as an adult and Christian) where my physical safety was threatened.

I read somewhere online that its a good idea to carry a maglight, one of the ones cops use.I guess that they are heavy and you can shine them in a persons face and confuse them.Thought it might be a good idea. Not sure how id fit that in my purse though. :p

Well THAT'S certainly comforting... But I'm guessing that macing (forgive me, peppering :)) a kangaroo carries even harsher penalties than peppering a pervert. (Not that I'd ever mace a kangaroo.)

Zero, I take this as your volunteering! :D

Come a little closer...
Haha you beat me to it,I was going to ask Zero the same thing. And macing a roo,I think that would be very difficult.

What yall need is something called a yellow jacket...its a case for the iphone that turns it into a taser...I recommend all the gals get it! It comes in yellow and blue and PINK

It uses the battery to discharge a nice jolt to the disrespectful jerkface that tries anything stupid

It's definitely each person's choice. It's just that some of these posts sounded like some poor guy might get maced for not being handsome enough to look in a woman's direction.

Nah I think women here are pretty smart. I dont think anyone is going to mace a guy for looking funny. Mitspa was pretty clear about creepy perverts.

Totally doesn't fit in a purse, I've tried :p
But it is a good thing to keep in your car. Useful for more than just giving thugs concussions ;)

No, no, no.

In all seriousness.

I would never resort to violence unless I felt my safety was in danger, or it was someone who was not respecting my personal space and kept trying to get close to me or somehow have physical contact with me even though I specifically told him "No, don't touch me" or to please step away from me.

But as MissCris said, if the situation was truly uncomfortable, I'd rather get the person the $%^& away from me first and ask questions later than risk being harmed.

I owned a German Shepard several years ago,he was a beauty. Ran around 75 pounds. He was real sweet but we taught him to "watch" he could be licking someones hand and if you said watch he'd turn on a dime and show teeth.People would cross the street when I'd walk him. I think every woman should have one, especially if she lives alone. He'd sit in the car and no one could come near.

On a lighter note my younger sister use to date a guy I really didnt like,he had ulterior motives I think.Every time he would come to pick my sister up I would tell the dog to "go get him"! He wouldnt let him out of his car. When he did get out the dog would stick his nose in well an uncomfortable region if you get my drift.Never did it to anyone but this guy.Id come up and say "Zorro what are you doing? Now you know better". Then give him a treat when the guy left. He dated my sister less than a month then took off. lol lol lol My husband says "you're so bad"! I say "I know, arent you glad Im on your side?"

Yes, it's better than using a gun, at least he can survive it. If you want to attack a beehive prepare to be stung!

After reading this thread: I'm wearing a chemical suit next time I go outside. I'll slip it over my knight's helmet. Clank.

I got so confused right now... the only "mace" I knew was the medieval weapon... but google saved me...

So, yeah... depending on the severity of the situation, I would use it...
Your response summons me. Yes, the mace. As a knight, I am familiar with it. However, the spray mace is more practical for today's women.

Truth, sir knight (and an arthurian, no less)! :) I'm a rogue myself, so no medieval mace for me.

But we can't use a spray mace here, so... no weapons for us... sad, but true... :(

Ok looks like everybody but Willie is "pro-mace" and Seoul is an extremist pro-macer :)
Aw crud.

Mitspa just gave away my political stance!!!

I guess I'll have to be like everyone else and their mother and run for president or something... :p
