2. Does this person have a substance abuse problem, and am I seeing the effects of it in their writing? I often wonder how many posts, no matter how intelligent the person is or claims to be, are written in between gulps, smokes, and empty cans/bottles. Again, I'm not saying this in criticism, but as a reminder to myself that some people seem unreasonable because whatever it is they're doing in life makes them that way, and arguing with them is pointless.

This is why I primarily stick to Singles. Sure, some of us here might be a little off our rockers :), but at least it's in a fun and lovable kind of way (for the most part.) :D
That's a great point. Prescription drugs too, even people who aren't substance abusers by the normal use of the term. In my hometown, it became the scourge of society of a long time. The doctors in the area were handing out prescriptions for powerful pain medication like lollipops at the barber shop. Even a lot of elderly people who were never into drinking or drugs who had legitimate pain became hopelessly addicted to them. There are hundred's of prescription drugs tha can alter a persons state of mind too.

Also, I've considered that lot of people may have grown up in a Westboro Baptist type Church. Especially when I see an atheist around just attacking Christianity for no apparent reason, I try not to get too riled up about it. A person might have some deep emotional wound that's related to a bad religious organization somehow.

As a side note, I don't know anyone here that I would describe as "on their rocker". People that are on their rockers don't come here for some reason :p. Like you said tho, its the fun and lovable crazy

Twenty years ago when I began chatting online, there were boards on AOL for "Christian discussion." One of them was called Evangelicals and Catholics Together....ahahahahahaha...the irony. The BDF is basically just like those boards. People do their idiosyncratic studies and form their particular views of whatever and then pontificate about it, never considering that someone else has done the same sort of study and arrived at a completely different opinion. So then it's all "my view is scriptural" and quickly denigrates into a "you're in line for hell first" kind of deal.

Soooo much energy that could be used for the kingdom.

Imagine if these people took on REAL problems like....hunger in their town, or providing companionship to those who are homebound, or getting school supplies for poorer kids. They could study and learn about various ways to address these issues, they could marshal Christians in the community, and BAM! begin to meet an actual needs of humans made in the image of God.

Shoot, if they just spent the time volunteering at a food bank, or praying over the sick, or working at an animal shelter, more good would be produced for the world.

I've actually seen some really good discussions there. But when you throw a bunch of catholics, non catholics, trinitarians, non-trinitarians, pre tribbers, post tribbers, seventh day adventists, baptists, methodists, calvinists, lutherans, ect.. into one place at the same time and throw in a few dozen trolls to kick things off......your going to see a lot of crazy stuff. With so many contradictory points of view, its obvious that somebody is definitely wrong in some of the discussions there. There is no inbetween in a lot of situations. The arguments are generally just a finger pointing contest concerning who's wrong.

A civil discussion between people who disagree is a good thing, but it so often details into a mud slinging contest that I can usually only stand being there in small doses.
How true!

I went into the building of the place I used to work at (with a key), on the weekend, they are closed weekend and I walked down the hall and I looked into the bathroom (open door) and saw a female coworker on the toilet with her grandson in there. Dedicated to one of the boys who declared his privacy on the Thunder Mug.

Its why I never go and then I stepped in and now irritated. Its a place where irritation and anger abounds. I prefer to be my normal happy self with out the forum picking and pulling every word apart. People can have different thoughts and opinions it's what makes us different. But sorry I cannot per further than you. But that horse over there can. (as in the horse in the field near me...before someone thinks I am calling them a horse.)

Oh yeah Mitspa will attack anyone who dares to disagree with him, and ruins most threads. He has even brought his special brand of ignorance into the singles forum before. Something about crying.

When do you tell them the truth by Mistpa
No disrespect to you, Mitspa or anyone else. I'm straighter than straight and am tired of all the gay threads. Once in a while I'll respond, and when I do, its not pretty. We're all better off when I just keep to myself about the issue and keep people lifted in prayer. Hang in there JeniBean. :)

Thanks! I'm keeping myself away so I can just smile and do as God directs me. Which right now is sitting in a car waiting on teenagers.

My kids, nieces and nephews always win in what's most important after God. One is mucking the stables, one is riding and One is taking a honors chemistry exam. I'm playing chauffeur for the evening. My youngest is kicking butt in tao Kwan do under grandma's watchful eye. And she will give me an ear full when I see her about safety of it all. But I love my family...so sitting and getting an ear full is fine by me.

I like the Bicker and Debate Forum, and I sometimes wade in (with my Bible and concordance close to hand), but I probably should balance my time in there with time in happier places. I find this to be a happy place, even if I don't technically fit here.

( One of the best "other" names for the BDF that I have heard yet! )
