I think it matters less what you are called and more about who is doing the calling. I don't mind being called "baby", "honey", "sweetie", "sugar", "darlin'", "girl", "woman", "lady", etc. I don't like female, it is too scientific and clinical to me. Impersonal, I guess.

I don't mind ma'am. 
I occasionally correct students and tell them to call me Ma'am. I had one last year that called me Miss. I liked that, it was kind of English. I remember the first time I was called ma'am. It stunned me. I was 16 and working in a fast food joint and a little kid called me ma'am. I felt so old!
