You might just be low on trans fluid. That's often the cause of abrupt shifting. Just be sure you get the right type of trans fluid (if its low). The owners manual should say what type.
That's what I thought - or rather that it simply needed changed (the fluid was black from the previous owner never servicing it). I've had it flushed and new fluid put in, but it's still doing it. My mechanic and his trans guy gave me suggestions, I just need to get it down to Mazda for service now.

Glad your car has been treating you well otherwise, bud!

(sorry for hijacking the thread, Kim)

Hmmm... if its under warranty then definitely take it to the dealer, but if its not, you might be better of taking it to a local shop. My family takes our cars to a guy in La Puente on valley Blvd. He seems to be very honest and his prices are reasonable and I think he specializes in japanese cars (he's japanese and so are his mechanics). Shoot me a PM if you want his info.

I heard that Honda trannys aren't reliable, unlike the rest of the car. Is there any truth to that?

I like my Mazda but would prefer a manual. The manual override feature is cool, but it's still not the same and my trans is jerking on the 1 - 2 upshift.
I miss my Miata. I also miss driving with a standard. My Corolla is functional, but not nearly as fun as my Mazda was.

A Honda tranny?!

Would that be a vehicle that used to be a car but has decided it's really a truck and is now making the transition??!!

Sorry. I couldn't resist. I read this post and for some reason, Caitlyn Jenner immediately came to mind.

(Seriously, the tips here are all awesome and I hope you'll keep sharing. I'm definitely tucking these suggestions away for the next time I have to buy a car.)

You're the umteenth person I've come across to mention loving their Miata. I'm digging all the Mazda love!

Lol. Better you than me; I almost made a similar reference in the "Remember when..." thread.

Sorry for the temporary hijack!
