Yeah, I get the whole sensual thing... in the context of a boy and girl who are in a relationship talking about it by themselves for the wrong reasons -.-

In this setting, the topic is perfectly fine, as many people of all genders are discussing the issue, and I can guarantee that we aren't gonna start talking about it erotically ~_o

Oh, and I just decided to run a google search on "Is masturbation a sin." Guess what the top few articles were? They were stating that it is NOT. This is the most in-depth one I found, and I really think it covers everything we've mentioned plus some =D

it is a sin because the bible says it is a form of false God worship. This is a form of selfishness.Because your thinking about your needs, what you want, what satisfies you. This can and probably will have it's affect on later relationships. This is something that spirals into an addiction.I'ts starts off as sort of innocent but slowly and steadily grows into an addiction. You'll find yourself thinking about and doing stuff you would'nt do before. So stay clear from it and if you find yourself in an addiction stay clear from it.

Talispman, the God of my life is determined about what I spend the most time with/on/worshipping. You don't know who I'm worshiping because you don't know my life. That's a judgement.

Be careful with that.

Masturbation is a want to fulfil the desire of the body. There is nothing Christian about it. Christians are called to put to death the body of sin and live in the spirit. But don't be discouraged by failing, instead look at how great and important the sacrifice our Lord has made for us. The worst thing a true believer should say is that a sin is not a sin. Even our consciences condemn us when we masturbate and we all know it. if it didn't strike us as a bad thing, there wouldn't be a forum thread about it. masturbation is desire, desire is wanting, wanting is covetness and covetness is idolatry. Masturbation is selfish, it is lust, it is desire, it is pleasure for the body which is the temple of God. Masturbation embodies so much sinfulness in itself. How bad is masturbation? It can decieve believers

In my experience, many Christians are uncomfortable with it for three reasons...

1) They're under the assumption that masturbation is completely dependent on lust, when there's no Biblical or medical evidence to support that assertion. Modern science has actually proven that while sexual intercourse boosts the libido, masturbation does not. Scripture clearly condemns lust, but there is nothing in the Bible which suggests the two are inherently linked.

2) They are following the age-old classification of masturbation as a sex act unto itself, and using that opinion to group it with clearly-defined Biblical sins like fornication, adultery, incest, homosexuality, or bestiality. While the Bible is very outspoken regarding these others, it is actually silent on the topic of masturbation itself. According to the actual text, it is neither condoned nor prohibited.

3) They are parroting what others (most often friends or close family) have taught them. Many who do this will classify masturbation as a "perversion", or lump it in with "sexual immorality", rarely (if ever) providing a Biblical foundation for such a classification. Some will even cite the Old Testament story of Onan as a depiction of masturbation, but the tale itself actually adheres better to the so-called "withdrawal method" of birth control.

You do all the math on this, and it becomes very clear that the Bible does not condemn nor endorse the physical practice of masturbation. Lust is prohibited, but it is possible to masturbate without lusting. It's not easy, but it can be done. It takes a conscious desire to serve God with your body, and the determination to focus on things other than lust. When done properly, I believe it can be used as a "preventive measure", so those who wish to serve God won't sin against Him by desiring people who aren't their spouse, or "shacking up" just to get their physical needs met.

If you want more information on this, I'd suggest these links, at a website called The Marriage Bed.

omigosh, ther are so many things to bring up i don't know if i can remember them all with out going back and looking at all of them. but i'll just stick with what bugged me the most.

First of all, half of the things that we learn from the Bible are not said out right. just because it doesn't say "masturbation is a sin," as pointed out in several posts in several verses, there are key words that might as well say it out right.

And then, on the matter of "taking a crap," or "blowing chunks" glorifying God, those are things that can't be helped, those are natural mechanisms that God placed in us, they do nothing to defile or glorify God.

Having sex with a spouse is another thing entirely. With a spouse, sex is supposed to be a beautiful thing, the act of concecrating the marriage.

I'm going to have to say I believe that masturbation is a sin. As someone who was literally addicted to it for six years of my life I can see how much it hurt God whenever I did it, and how much it hurt myself. And I'm quite ashamed of that part of my past, I wish that I could just erase those years from my memory...

Masturbation is a sin for males ONLY. The Bible has no mention of masturbation, EXCEPT the passage about not spilling and wasting your seed on the ground. Because the seed of life is sacred, that means male masturbation is sinful and wrong. For females, it is ok to do it. Have you ever wondered why satan tempts and torments males to do it so much? Why does he make it so hard for guys to resist? He knows its a sin for us, so he wants us to do it! Yes, I'm male, if you haven't seen that on my profile yet, so I'm definitely not letting myself off the hook by saying all this. I was raised to believe it is wrong, and I am still struggling with it, as a single male.

Some will say that's unfair, why should guys be the only ones who have to suffer from trying to abstain from it? Well, fair or unfair is beside the point. Sin is sin. Besides, women have some kinds of suffering that men don't have to worry about (menstrual cramps, the pain of childbirth). I admit I wish it wasn't a sin for me to do it, because being single, it is very very hard to abstain, and male sexual frustration is very bitter and hard to endure. But does that change the right and wrong of it? No. The Bible is silent on female masturbation, but has condemned male self-pleasure. It's a hard reality for christian guys to deal with, but no one said being christian is always easy.

Masturbation though it is not specifically noted as sinful in the Bible, inevitably leads you to sin, either because you become controlled by your sex drive or because you start sexualizing women.

The euphoric experience from it can become an addiction, like you have with a drug, and you are no longer in control of yourself. Paul writes in

1 Corinthians 6:12
(NASB)(emphasis mine)

12
All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.

Masturbation may seem harmless at first, but if you continually do it, it will lead you to sin. This verse I feel is the most relevant verse to this topic, even though it also applies to other things as well. The question you have to ask yourself is: What benefit am I getting out of it? Is it truly worth the risk of falling into sin and bondage?

So it is a sin because it could escalate into actual adultery? That seems a bit of a stretch. And women are already sexualiized and objectified, otherwise we would all like like androgynous ken dolls.

The benefits of masturbation are physiological and emotional. The dangers of not having regular sexual release are erectile disorders, prostate problems, sterility, impotence and possible even cancer.

Those who genuinely have recieved the Holy Spirit should not need to question whether masturbation is a sin. But those who are interested or are looking at Christianty and want to know what the bible says, it is this simple, the bible says Christians are to live in the Spirit, not the body. Masturbation is purely physical for both men and women. I can asure you the reason people have a problem with not calling this a sin is because of their love of it. But nevertheless reason in your own heart if it is appropriate or not, ask God for understanding. Christians rely on the Spirit for help, that's what seperates us from every other religion. Our God actually answers and He Himself does the work in your heart that then allows you to bear fruit to the glory of His name. There are far too many excuses dancing around the truth in this thread. Most of them admitting lack of knowledge but very willing to express an opinion anyway. Don't just treat the bible as a book full of words, get to the heart of it, After all that's where Jesus Christ is. I hope you find an answer that speaks to your heart and not into your pants. If you honestly are searching then you will honestly find. Good luck and may God bless your search for the truth amongst this sea opinions.

Firstly- I don't believe the Bible ever mentions that we cannot enjoy anything physical ever. All verses used saying that "We should be spiritual and not physical" are taken out of context- They are just there to point out how the spiritual matters more than the physical, and the physical should not become more important.

Secondly- I love how you say we "dance around the truth" and "admit lack of knowledge," when you have provided no real biblical support yourself (though I admit I'm not looking up any verses to quote right now either XD)

Thirdly- This is your logic: "It's physical pleasure, and not spiritual, so it must be wrong." So is eating, so is getting a massage, so it having sex WITH YOUR SPOUSE. Being physical in nature does not make it evil at all.
