not sure if she based it on columbine school shooting or some other shooting in the US but its like a school librarians worst nightmare,,,the children going feral in the library!

I want to find out what happens in the end though

most lockdowns measures are for someone outside coming and doing a rampage but the children or bullies on the inside can do as much damage. Sometimes teachers can make things worse though, unwittingly

I remember one boy, 6 or 7 years old, saying he wanted to kill another girl in his class
he said it in a joking way, but I was alarmed
the girl wanted to hide out in the library

I couldnt let her be there by herself or stop the other boy from entering and we arent allowed to lock doors during lunchtimes cos of school rules

I took it up with the DP who dealt with the boy who was having a hard time at home. I dont know if it was race or gender or both but the boy was white and the girl was dark. Because weve had shootings in nz (christchurch) I cant think of what impression it gives young children

when I had here in the library there with me and the door was closed and he was barred from entering he threw a massive fit and got red flagged

the girl asked if she could come in during morning tea times when it was closed and I wasnt there (to tidy) but the principals said I cant let anyone in there without any adult supervision (cos the boy could just find her and hurt her) and the duty teachers often ignore the library

I also need my breaks and I am the only adult in there

that boy is no longer at this school not sure about the girl

I just pray they grow up without coming to harm...with covid lockdowns some children are safer at home than at school but some children are more at risk at home. Cant win.

School shootings are always a tragic event. One positive affect of the previous Covid19 lockdowns in the US was that there were no school shootings. Fewer business shootings too. I fully agree with your last sentence.

I have always appreciated your concern for children. You are right, there are times that no matter what, you can't win.

Im a bit disappointed in the book
I finished it and the author just basically placed a love tumour at the end between the cop and ex-judge where they just had another baby.

I was like what. ok, so ten families lives are forever ruined in a shooting rampage plus the whole school is traumatised and so the answer and happy ending to this horror fest is just to have MORE children. are you kidding me.

Im guessing its to replace the ones who died.

Jodi Picoult, if you are reading this, confess you live a charmed life and really have no clue about what you write about...as long as it makes a good story.

I dont know if I will read her other one Ive got on the shelf. Its called 'the book of two ways' and apparently its about a woman whos having a mid life crisis as most of her heroines appear to be having. I wonder how many cliches this one has...

positive case at my school here means 2 classes are away till next week.

I wonder if in the US lockdowns just meant domestic violence went up tho. I never got the fascination with guns or why people would go beserk with them. If you really want to hit something, why not just play cricket or baseball. Or golf. Or play paintball

That is an interesting point that you raised, that due to lockdowns in US was there a correlation in the cases of domestic violence. Without any research I would have to say that there probably was a rise in these types of cases.

one of my friends is unvaccinated and has kinda bought in to the whole hysteria
so just having a regular conversation is difficult because now she gets angry at the govt all the time.

Im like I dont pay much attention to the govt. what they do or dont do. Its a health issue.
plus when they go on their rants, they get the nz govt mixed up with other countries govts and some countries are way worse off than others and even more draconian.

Im like do you actually work in a hospital? She doesnt but seems to think people are lying to her. if shes concerned about the medical side of it she can get an exemption. why drag the govt into it.

I guess i dont have much sympathy for her
when you make choices to do or not something you still need to live with the consequences of those choices whatever they may be.
getting angry about it wont solve anything. Looking for solutions or having alternative options is.

One positive case and two classes away for days? Where I’m at the authorities have ended mandatory testing, masks, isolation and lockdowns. In my daughter’s class there was eight positive cases last week. You don’t even have to stay home if you’re positive now.

oh really so does everyone just get covid but then how can you learn when you are tired and coughing.
my country is a bit behind and got smaller population. so we didnt have enough tests to go round.

I think if youve got symptoms just stay home...it will eventually be everyone has to monitor their own health but some people are weird in that they still want to work when they are sick as a dog. I just hope they remember to wash their hands.

a bit crazy but with children its more like they will feign sickness so they dont have to go to school if they truly dont want to go to school. though there might be a lot of parents dont want to look after them if they have to stay home too, but thats the thing with children is they arent in a position to look afte rthemselves, as far as I know, no child will walk themselves to hospital and willingly spend the night there!

i recall playing hospital with my brother (who is now a doctor) and it was noticed everytime we played it, our toys came up with various illnesses. Cos what would the point of playing hospital be if we didnt have any patients. lol

come to think of it I dont think we even have a school nurse.
the school nurse I recall at high school just told everyone who was sick to take a panadol and go back to class.

I recall getting concussion in high school when I fell of a chair/stool (by accident). I was painting a mural and the door opened and I turned around and fell right in front of the teacher.

the nurse didnt really check me and eventually from that accident I started to have weird spells every so often and I actually DId have to go to hospital and missed a lot of school when I was discharged and stayed at home. was it a week or a month? I cant remember.

then the rumour went round that Id gotten myself pregnant lol. I did recover and actually finished high school and went on to university but my mental health took a beating.

when I look back on it Im not sure what the high school could have done differently it being the size that it was. its hard on parents to have a child thats unwell and you dont really know what to do about it. You have to be there but sometimes you cant be there all the time.

I'm unvax and so is my wife. Seems to me that the vaccine isn't really that effective as some people that get it still get Covid. Some that get it get sick and some die from the vax. It appears that Covid is winding down, so I am not about to expose myself to a vaccine I don't trust. A true vaccine should have the dead virus in it. I don't believe that any of the vaccines available contain a dead virus but rather a mixture of chemicals that attack the virus.

Nowadays, the kids would just step outside and smoke a doobie and then slide back into class. Or not.
