In my ninth smoke-free day. I can't say that it is getting any easier but I intend to stick with it. I have been eating more than usual as it helps to fill the void. I don't have a scale at home but I believe that I have gained at least a couple pounds. That is a good thing because I am chronically underweight. I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want and it doesn't seem to affect my weight. Maybe that's changed a little due to not smoking.

I would love to see you gain a little weight it wouldn't hurt you one little bit. Me on the other hand should loose weight and I'd be happy to let you find it....Hugs and proud of your progress. One day at a time Sweet Jesus....That's all we're asking of you.

By my calculations today marks the end of my second week abstaining from smoking. The cravings are not as bad as they were at the beginning of my withdrawal so that is a plus. To take my mind off smoking I have been catching up on my reading. So far so good.

what are you reading tourist

I had not thought that reading might be a good subsitiute...I mean reading is relaxing for me. always has been.
If theres anything to be addicted to, a good book would be one, plus, I have observed that people who read dont smoke and read at the same time which is good cos you dont want to burn the pages or anything.

Also, books that come from smoke free environments are better preserved. The papers dont smell or go all yellow.

My favorite authors are David Balducci, Tom Clancy, and Clive Cussler. Mostly, I read action / adventure. What you have said about smoking / reading is true is my case. Reading helps fill the void from not smoking.

I'm starting my 4th week of being smoke-free. The mental anguish seems to be diminishing a little bit. I find that I still enjoy sitting outside with my coffee minus the ashtray, BIC, and pack of smokes. I'll take that as a good sign in the recovery process. The last three days have been mild and abundant sunshine.

It has been beautiful the last several days where we live. Fun to watch the birds at the bird feeders and the rooster is becoming a regular diner in the afternoon. Proud of you making progress on being smoke free.

Thank you dear. The squirrel found a way to get to the bird feeder. Little guy seems to be a bit of a slop as the rooster comes right afterward and cleans up the seeds on the ground. Apparently, it's a partnership of some sort similar to marriage.

I am now starting my second month in recovery for my nicotine addiction. It has been a struggle but with the support of my loving wife and by the grace of God it is my intention to stay the course. The mental and physical anguish has abated somewhat and for that I am grateful. It is good to be alive.

You can buy 3 packs of David Baldacci, Clive Cussler and Tom Clancy at the bookshop and they will last a lot longer than a pack of cigarettes. Cheaper too.

Since I have stopped smoking I fill the void by reading. Books do last longer. I may last longer too.

I want you to last longer. The marriage is still young and we have a lot of life to live together.

Anyone have advice on moving past heartbreak ? I'm about 19 years old and just discovered the girl of my dreams (who's about 10 years older than me) starting dating a firefighter (i think he's one anyway) and now i feel this anxious feeling (although really light) and irritation from the fact that she's basically unavailable anymore. I've been attracted to her for the past 3 or 4 years (when she was single i think) and now i need help on how to move past her.

@RaceBoy

Not sure how much help that you need as you already know that it's time to move on. She was just much older than you and was probably looking for some financial stability and saw potential and a future with this firefighter.

My counsel is for you to focus on furthering your education by vo-tech or community college and full-time employment in a position with opportunity for growth. Next thing you know, some woman will dump some young guy for you.

When I was just a little older than you I had a girl of my dreams and she ended up to be my worse nightmare. Perhaps God spared you from years of misery.

I also recommend that you work on your personal relationship with the Lord. This should be your highest priority and the rest of the stuff will follow.

I have had my share of heartbreak due to poor choices on my part. Most of my pain in life has sadly been self-inflicted. From my perspective I believe that you have dodged a bullet. A couple or three years from now you will look back on this situation and come to realize that this heartbreak was actually a blessing in disguise from God.

The Guy upstairs is looking out for you and has your back. Yes, it's time to move forward and don't look back.

tourist just wonder if you ever read 'the problem of pain' by CS Lewis
I haven't but its often quoted by christians.

I cant imagine Jesus smoking to take away the pain of the crucifixtion, but he was offered alcohol, which he refused.
I am supposing smoking, like any kind of drug helps you deal with the pain, but what is the pain your are trying to relieve exactly?

women often deal with pain by crying...and that is why a good 'chick flick' can help with plenty of hankies and tissues. Always feel better after a good cry. or we cry into our pillows at night when nobody can see.

No, I haven't read that book. The pain I deal with concerns depression and anxiety. Smoking did not address these issues but I used smoking as a means to relax. Regarding crying, the thing is I don't have any more tears inside to shed or otherwise, on some days I would cry me a river. After a few years I just sort of grew numb from what happens in the world and how it particularly affects me.
