People often use pecans instead of walnuts because walnut allergies are now a thing...

PS~ I just threw the left over two year-old fruit cake in the garbage the other day LOL

And I saw a stollen for 30 bucks at Whole Foods. Thirty dollars!!! ($30.00)

I ain't buyin' that. But I may purchase a fruit cake for this year .:D

Love the cherries, nuts, raisins, currants, and candied peel... with marzipan!
lol two years old? Where were you keeping it?

$30?! Yikes!

I love marzipan! It's a family tradition in our family.

It was in the fridge. I checked the date a while back when this fruit cake topic came up in another thread...
I had thought I'd bought it last year but it was two years ago LOL... fruit cake is not like pie. I can eat a whole
pie over a week or so but fruit cake? I really like it but can only take so much of it. Plus I forget about things.
I kept seeing this small block of something in my fridge door and thought it was butter in a plastic bag

Go to aldi. They have stollen for, like, less than 5 bucks.

I don't think we have Aldi here. I know I can get stollen a lot less expensive than that. But you know Whole Foods
is not called "Whole Paycheck" for nothing. LOL But even so, they prolly have other options as well...
And there are certainly other stores that sell stollen as well.

I don't know why anyone would want chewy hard wrinkled grapes. grapes are better fresher plump and juicy.
Good point. I do prefer the soft fruit in the cake, but it's a mix of textures and flavors that's also the kick. Walnuts are also a bit denser and also a bit bitter, so you have those contrasts.

I looked into plum pudding and assumed that this is what gave birth to the fruit cake. They were made as military rations and would keep indefinitely.

I can't write Chinese either, but Google Translate can. I type this into Google Translate and it spits out the text you're reading. (It's not perfect, but always good enough to understand what a person is saying.)

Step 1: Write what you want to say in Google Translate.

Step 2: Select English as the language you want to translate to.

Step 3: Copy any English it gives you.

Step 4: Paste this English into the forum where we are talking.
