Hiya people :)

Here's what's up-
My husband and I are smokers. Well, we're quitting, starting today (this morning). We've tried to quit before, but one or both of us always found some excuse to start again. This time, both of us seem more...willing? Heh. Anyway, I just want to ask for your prayers for us both on this. For our health, for our success at quitting, whatever you feel like saying a quick prayer about.

Thanks, and whatnot :D

I'll pray for you and wish you the best of luck!! It will be the best for you, AND for your kids too. Doctors say that second-hand smoking (that is, a person smokes and another inhales the smoke) is more dangerous than firsthand smoking.

I really hope you and your husband succeed in kicking the addiction! For GOOD! For God! :)

Thanks lil :)

(BTW- we never did smoke around the kiddos, always outside. I grew up with my mom and grandparents always smoking in the house or car and I hated it (so maybe it's strange that I'd have started smoking at all...))

That's good! I'm always concerned about that with parents who smoke. Not anything personal with anyone, I've just developed a concerned heart for kids, health-wise and spirituality-wise, since it seems to be kids are getting worse and worse these days. I worry greatly about my generation and the next generation. Sorry, rabbit-trail. Anyways. :D No matter HOW hard it is, know that in the end it WILL be worth it!!

Hi Miss Criss :)

My grandmother started giving me cigarettes when i was 15 or 16. I smoked from then until my early 20's. So quite awhile. I know how hard it is to quit and the cycle of stopping and starting up again.

That same grandparent that gave me the cigarettes i literally watched die of smoking related cancer. My other grandmother(who had lung cancer) her children (my dad and uncles) and myself watched as she first threw up blood, then her lungs filled up with it and she suffocated on her own blood. As a matter of fact i do not know of one person in my family who has not died of lung cancer or emphysema.

I will never get those images out of my mind. I tell you this because it is a horrific horrific way to die, people don't realize how serious smoking is. It's enjoyable until your lungs stop working fill up with fluid and you feel like your breathing through a straw.

When you start feeling the urge to smoke... google lung cancer. unfortunately i saw it several times personally, but fortunately it probably saved my life because i immediately quit.

I truly am praying for you

My father smoked unfiltered camels for 35 yrs. He died at 50. My mother smoked Winstons for almost 30. She quit in 1976 and still alive today. I remember peering through a blueish smoky haze while watching TV. I smoked OPs (other peoples) for years but quit. I don't buy the second hand smoke hysteria although I'm sure it's not good for you. Anyway may the Lord strengthen you and your husband and give you success in quitting. In Jesus name.Amen.

I understand. My family did not smoke but I had friends and cousins who had parents who did. I worked my way thru college as a waiter. I hated the stink of old smoke in my hair and in my clothes.

I do smoke an occasional cigar. Some cigars a really, really, love. I at times struggle to not go and buy them. My fav is a Montecristo white label in a churchill size. Even so, I know God does not approve and I have better things to do with my money, but that does not stop the daily craving for one.

My stepdad started smoking at 14. He stopped a couple of years before he died of the lung cancer that literally ate a hole through his chest wall. Just thought throwing that visual out there might be helpful to y'all.

It's fantastic that you are doing this! Your babies need ya, so I'll be praying and what not. :) My sis thought she would never be able to quit, but God led her through it. :) Let us know how it's going! :)

Prayer worked for me! I came out of work one day and I was completely delivered. Stay encouraged ! I no longer had the desire to smoke ;)

So many health things can happen from smoking. Stopping sooner than later is best. My grandma quit in her 50s but she still soonafter developed Emphesema and it affected her life more and more, to the point, she was out of breath after walking a few steps . Oddly, emphesema did not take her life, Lou Gehrig's disease did :( I miss my grandma now :( We had a lot of fun playing word games, in her final months here, when my mom (a registered nurse) was her caregiver for that final time. I am pretty sure the last time I saw her I mentioned God was with her, too, in the time where she could not speak anymore and her body was debillitated by that horrible disease, I think of it a lot like ebola, but that's in other countries .

God bless you, mizzcriss, He will, just follow Him, the power of God is great.

The Lord leads.

p.s. - I just was walking in Target other day and there are a lot of smoking stuff quitting stuff there, and, some looked like generic names of the expensive kits so I am mentioning that to you, milady :)

My mom smoked one time, when her dad gave he cigarette when she was in her teens. She inhaled, turned blue and said she would never touch another one her entire life. Great job by my grampa I'd say.

-- Me personallly, never even picked up a cigarette, all I have to do is smell the smoke of the bars I was in growing up when I was playing the video games. And every once in a while I get a whiff of an ashtray and they always are dirty and stink.

But, not to make light of this, mizzcriss, the way you will quit is by prayer to Him, devotion, and, bonding, and, working at it, that's how God said it would be (in Gen. 3:15), we will 'toil,' and 'labor,' and, it's great if you are just delivered by prayer in one time as stacygogirl said, but, yeah, just follow Him, His work is for you and there is a Scripture verse that says we are to 'wait on the Lord' and this is for ALL kinds of things, not just marriage, as many perceive that Isaiah 40:31 verse. And, also there is Scripture that says 'in His due time.' Keep at it, diligently, with your hubby, building each other up, not just daily, but hourly and all the time that 'the urge' hits you and stay strong, and, NEVER guilt the other person. That is great, too, you are doing this act together :)

Blessings to you and your husband, MissCris, and definitely a bundle of prayers for support. I have many friends I worry about who smoke and wish they would quit as well, because I love them and want them around for as long as possible!!

Kudos to you, and don't give up trying! *hugs* We are here anytime you need to vent or need an extra round of cheers!

When people ask if I smoke, I say "only when I'm on fire". Perhaps that mantra can be of help to you.

Of course, maybe you should also tell them that you barbeque every weekend... :D

Thank you all, I really appreciate the support :)

So far, it hasn't been as bad as I was expecting it to be. I haven't, for instance, felt like mangling anyone/anything. I haven't even really been cranky. Just all sleepy and a little twitchy.

I've also eaten an excessive amount of hard candy and chewed 6 pieces of cinnamon gum (which I hate).

BRAVO!

I quit when I got pregnant with my daughter. However, it was a bit easier because suddenly the smell of them made me sooooo sick, I couldn't stand it. But giving up smoking, caffeine and *ahem* other things, all in the same week while dealing with the thought of being a single mother, telling my family and friends that I'd screwed up and dealing with my baby daddy was....um.....ridiculous. If I can do it, so can you! You're doing faaaaaaaaaaabulous! :D
