I believe in faerie. (Really, I actually do). Yes, it is strange- but I found out other people do as well and some of them were absolutely brilliant people and not insane.

"were absolutely brilliant and not insane"? Does that mean that they're not brilliant now, and are insane? Sorry, I'm studying English grammar now, so the different tenses confused me. I'm guessing you meant brilliant people who aren't now alive. Care to name any? I'm just curious.

They are very much alive- more alive now than when they were bound to Earth. Tolkien, De La Mare, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams. Great British Christian authors of the twentieth century.

You’re welcome. I was rather excited, and a little proud of myself (more than a little) to find out that my ideas are along the same lines as people like Tolkien and Lewis (who are WAY above me in intellect). It is thrilling, actually.

I don't know that I believe one way or another about fairies, but many Native tribes, including mine, have stories about little people.

It’s not just fairies, it is faerie- which encompasses all mythologies. The Inklings were into mythopoetics. They believed that fantasy is a way to God, something I have long believed. I have always believed in mythological creatures and that they exist in reality somewhere. I know this sounds insane, but I found out today that I am not the only one.

Most people I've met in my life have seemed insane. Coming from the environment I did, I'm not really sure what insane actually looks like.

So you think the Hydra is chilling somewhere with the Yeti?

I think what we call reality is not the real reality- but a shadow of the real reality that will be Heaven. So, if we think things are real that other people think is make believe, the things may be manifest in the real reality and not this subreal reality.

Kind of Platonism, I guess. Plato was onto something, I believe he came to know God after death.

Yes, why not? Only they are not dangerous. Like the Bumble in Rudolph, Cornelius says “he’s a reformed Bumble”. Maybe An Abominable Snowman without teeth seems to be boring, but I bet he is still extremely interesting. C.S. Lewis wrote his space books and said that there are perhaps other universes where Christ has gone to redeem the creatures in a different mode, of course. I thought this, myself. I haven’t read his space books but now want to very much.

You should read them. They're his best bit of fiction.

I'lllll have to part ways with you on the existence of mythical creatures. I'm no thorough-going materialist, but that seems like one heck of a presumptive leap.

Yes, I plan to read them.

Funnily enough, Lewis was a materialist before his conversion. It is interesting how he went from believing in nothing spiritual into believing that much was spiritual. On an off side, Tolkien considered chopping down trees to be “murder”. They were an interesting lot, these 20th century British Christians. They apparently talked about all sorts of subjects. One of the Inklings, Hugo Dyson, did not get along with Tolkien and when Tolkien got up to read a bit of The Lord of the Rings, he said “Oh God! Not more about the *Anglo Saxon expletive* elves!” Not a staid bunch of Christians, at all.

Hahahaha. I'm a huge Tolkien fan, but I do not think I would've gotten along too well with the man.

This week has been funny. I'm not materialist enough for the materialists and not mystic enough for the mystics.
