The OP is talking to people who suffer from an obsession with unhealthy sexual thoughts and practices. He says oftentimes discipleship efforts to help these people are probably not enough and the person must find, on their own, and with the Lord's help, ways to overcome. He then goes on the suggest possible ways to do this.
An unhealthy lack of self-control can interfere with a good relationship with the Father. A person may know in their head they're a child of God, but can't connect on a meaningful level. He offers fasting as one method to quell the temptation. This may help some people, but for me personally it was no help at all. He says fasting will help us keep the flesh under our control; however, self-control is a gift of the Holy Spirit and the Spirit is the One who gives us control. It's really more of a mental problem than a physical one. That's why I said in my previous post that "snapping out of it" was really the only thing that ever helped me with the obsession. A compulsion or obsession is really just an unhealthy thought pattern that takes control of the mind.
Anyone who has struggled with compulsive or addictive behavior know exactly what I'm talking about.
