why would you want to fight someone elses battle though
Not sure getting it cos weaponry doesnt require an able body anymore. You just press a button and bow up things or send drones.
Despite the drones, to win a war still requires boots on the ground.

They shirked their duty. God appointed another to take their place. Some of those didn't make it home. Others, with life-altering disabilities. Those that dodged the draft should be ashamed of themselves.
are they ashamed though? I dont know anybody in Canada who dodged it. I wonder if they went back to the US or just became Canadians.

what do you actually win though?

A million dollars each? New house and car? a lifetime of regret?
The military wins nothing tangible at all, only knowing that they answered the call to serve their country honorably. Not many would have regret, especially over a lifetime.

Plenty of those in the United States dodged the draft, especially the Vietnam conflict. Bill Clinton was one of those, among many. Those are the ones that may suffer regret as they were derelict in their duty. God appointed others, as some died in their place.

I know Elvis famously was called up and served and went to Germany
But I dont know if the Beatles did. (different country, but not sure about the rules in UK). I dont know if everyone was called at the time or just some.

Nobody is called in my country now its all voluntary. I think after Gallipoli they were like dont even go there. We cant afford to lose that many men.

I was called up for jury duty once but got to the dock and they decided they didnt need me. Never said why but was some horrible murder case. I was kinda glad as was working at the time, but I know some try to get out of it with some excuse.

I confess....
Sometimes during a meal (like tomorrow's) or meeting I want to jump up and stand on the middle of the table with a sword held up high and shout, "There can be only one"....

But instead I usually just hum the song

I am immortal.....
I feel like singing, (or humming)...

'We are the champions, my friends.
And we'll keep on fighting till the end.
We are the champions,
We are the champions,
No time for losers 'cause we are the champions,
Of the world."

Now have given all my ideas away have run out any of my own ...

I once wrote a picaresque novel about a nz girl who goes on a road trip across the US with her goofy pyschiatrist. There were so many refernence to popular songs and lyrics (because they play songs on the car radio and sing along) that it would be a nightmare to have it published and acknowledge them all in the copyright.
"That was Paperback Writer. Now it's time for your local news and weather. It's gonna rain today and turning to snow in the evening...."

"And the hits just keep on coming. Keeping it real here..."

"....living on the air in Cincinati. Cincinati WKRP."

I have noticed that certain types of people are drawn to certain musical instruments. That is why I swore not to get involved with a violinist. And my obvious instrument is the bassoon. Whimsical. Deep. Never taken seriously. But has a hidden beauty most people, and certainly not the instrument itself, can't see. The clown in the orchestra and placed safely in the background.

If you were an instrument, which and why?
Drop your silver in my tambourine.
Help a poor man fill a pretty dream.
Give me pennies, I'll take anything.
Now, listen while I play (play, play, play-)

My green tambourine.
