I didn't post this in the News forum because frankly that draws some pretty wild responses.

I'm curious to know/understand how people from other countries and the United States feel about this issue.

When something big happens in another country people tend to look and see what America is doing. My thought is, sometimes it's best we involve ourselves and sometimes not.

How do you feel about this issue? I am begging for this not to be, let's bash The Americans thread, I would like it to be an open discussion, respecting others opinions. I know it's possible so please respect that. Thank you.
Im rather torn over this cause I feel both ways ; 1. I think its good for a SuperPower Country to have the resources to help in humanitarian efforts/minorities being bullied and murdered around the world that are quite dire 2. The USA cant be the worlds Police Watch all the time especially when it has 2 big wars they are involved in and is on the verge of financial bankruptcy . One thing that's for sure, these militant murdering Groups like ISIS and AL QUEDA are not going to quit and they will always be a threat to the USA and its allied Countries . What id like to see in the future are a great number of Countries pitching in to help and to really cause some damage to these ruthless Murderers.

That's how I've been thinking. I remember when they finally caught Osama Bin Laden, I was glad but I knew someone would replace him. In our life time we will never see peace in the middle east.

Most of the world was greatly devastated or affected by World WarII and the United States took the initiative to allow many countries to get back on their two feet by providing aid and protection. The United Nations was also mandated to serve this purpose also but has been a miserable failure and once again the US had to step in to resolve the crisis. Many in the US believe it is time that the UN do its job instead of playing cop because it is draining the US enomically, destroying the fabric of many American families and have divided us as a nation.

Iraq is a perfect example!! We freed them from a ruthless dictator while fighting many factions within the country. We train its military and given them billions of dollars of military equipment, and they run away like rabbits from ISIS which is 10X smaller than they are with inferior equipment. And not to say that we lost 4900 American lives and thousands are permanent disabled.

We cannot help those countries that won't defend themselves because they fear the enemies at the expense of American blood. I thought the US learned its lesson in Vietnam. Apparently it hasn't.

Vietnam, Iraq & Afghistan are countries where its people lacked the will to fight their enemies. A perfect example of the opposite was the Phillipines where the people provided incredible assistance to the Americans fighting the Japanese on various islands. We could have not won the war without its assistance. And the Phillippes was rewarded with an American military base which was a boom to its economy and security. We need to make better choices in assisting those who want our help militarily.

I really don't understand how you can logic that the UN is draining the US financially when the US invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, at an astronomical financial cost, against the ruling of the UN.

I don't believe it's America's job to police the world. Rather, I call it "being a good influence, helping when and where it's needed".
I do believe that many countries have not liked our "butting in" sometimes, in which case we should have just left them alone.
For example, look how much money and assistance we have poured into the middle east over the years (since 1953 I believe). And most of them resent our presence. However, it has gone on for so long, that we are in a place where we have to be there, there is more corruption there now than ever. And there sits Israel, who isn't getting any help from us now. So we pray... God bless Israel!

"against the ruling of the UN" thank you for agreeing with me because it just shows how dysfunctional the UN is. Many powers will initiate it own policies against aggression by other nation because the UN is virtually worthless. Instead of the UN leading the charge, it is the US that is taking its place. I will be the first to admit that the US has overstep it boundaries by involving itself in wars that is not its best interest. I believe the draining process is a result of being the "super cop" too long, and the last two wars didn't help. I was totally against the war in Vietnam, and also against occupation of Iraq & Afghanistan. I really like Obama's foreign policy so far because he is demanding international help in fighting against insurgents rather than the US playing the super cop role. The US infrastructures are really in bad shape because our resources have gone overseas rather than being applied at home. This has been going on for 50 years and has finally caught up with the US.

We have spent trillions of dollars protecting & rebuilding other countries while badly neglecting our own.

If they can use the situation to improve the quality of lives of those involved- then YES. If said answer is NO- then my answer would also be NO. I guess it's a circumstantial thing.

America has always been looked at by many as a country to base their economy from because of how successful America has become, so a lot of time these other countries ask for our help to get their country thriving to.

On the subject when we see others suffering in a country, from tyranny, oppression, persecution, terrorism, and pestilence/hunger than yes we are to involve our selves. Our Lord gives clear instruction that we are to help those who face these situations, and that we are not to let mans philosophy or our own issues cloud our judgment to not help these people.
We should be helping them as individuals. I guess it's much easier to have the government steal our neighbour's money to fight for a cause we believe in, though.

I believe that this country is a beacon of hope to the rest of the world. Proud to be an American.
What hope? List the freedoms that you still have in the United States that have not been curtailed by the government.

America has had no foreign policy for a long time. No policy means no prioritization. No prioritization means a lackadaisical and nonsensical approach to foreign relations and possible foreign intervention.

The US should not leave a power vacuum abroad. At the same time, we owe other countries a greater degree of stability and predictability in our external affairs.

I am not the man to draft it, but I think it would make sense to have a modern equivalent of a Monroe Doctrine.
How would you feel if Britain were to take the place of power broker? They have nukes and a strong military.
Something tells me that you think only the United States should be in charge of anything. I guess that makes sense, from the standpoint that you live there.

Afghanistan was a legit invasion. Iraq not so much. Quite frank id rather see my nation take a Isolationist stance. Also note the USA is broke it ain't got any money the dollar is worthless all the years of playing world police has drained this nation along with idiot leaders making treasonous decisions. Honestly I see the USA breaking apart like the USSR did.

The United Nations was formed to help solve many of the world's problems. Unfortunately, it is next to being worthless, therefore, someone else had to step up at the plate ... sadly, it is often the USA.

It is none of our business. Should be the UN's affair, like biscuit said. But they are basically non-existant. They spend more time in Haiti than other places. And they do need it. But they need more...
Unfortunately, we may have been partly responsible in what is happening in the Middle East now...Ron Paul said we started butting-in to their affairs back in '53, and we can't keep our noses out of it. The last 20 years we have trained Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, supported their regimes, then they turned on us. This may not be our fault. But who knows? Right now we are supporting a nation over there that we were previously at war with. I believe the reason we have stayed over there, is to keep our unemployment down. Keep our young men at war and overseas, less unemployment. But we can print more money...Aren't we printing 75mil a month now, just to "keep going"? We have spent Trillions over there, then Obama just decided to drop the ball. We back one country, then switch allegiance when the wind blows wrong. We should have just stayed home to begin with, except as givers of help (ie. clothing, food, etc.)
Now we have disgruntled, wayward US guys joining them. (?)
Jesus will straighten this all out in due time, we can take solace in that. And we will go to heaven. And Satan will be defeated.
According to the book of Daniel, Satan will come back and rule Persia (Iran). We are seeing the first signs of Daniel's story already (multiple warring extremist groups, united but not) in the region, Syria getting involved, etc.

Is that right? You're the one who said the U.S. should not leave a power vacuum abroad. I then said, "Something tells me that you think only the United States should be in charge of anything." (i.e. - the mentioned power vacuum). I, thus, left the door open to you for a rebuttal. Instead I got a snide comment.

Whose reading comprehension needs work again?

This sub-forum is like a whole entire forum unto itself... with unique dynamics and people. So other topics do work their way in sometimes. It keeps things lively. :)

When the US sneezes, Canada says "achoo" and gets the Kleenex!

So do a lot of other countries. The US is a superpower, like it or not!

But remember the US was reluctant to enter both WWI and WWII. But neither war would have been "won/ended" without the resources and know how of the Americans.

Strangely, The US then became entangled in a series of meaningless minor wars, like Korea and Vietnam.

I personally think with with the recession in the US, Americans should focus on restoring their economy. However, I confess to wishing Obama would commit troops to fighting ISIS.

America is a great nation, no doubt about it. But I do thing it's glory is fading, because of corporate greed and self indulgence by the general population. I pray God will restore America, not necessarily to a place of power, but rather to a national revival of faith in Christ.
