I didn't post this in the News forum because frankly that draws some pretty wild responses.

I'm curious to know/understand how people from other countries and the United States feel about this issue.

When something big happens in another country people tend to look and see what America is doing. My thought is, sometimes it's best we involve ourselves and sometimes not.

How do you feel about this issue? I am begging for this not to be, let's bash The Americans thread, I would like it to be an open discussion, respecting others opinions. I know it's possible so please respect that. Thank you.
I think it's because America has been so involved in the past that the world looks whether or not you will act. Because ultimately what you guys do or do not do, does effect the world. I think it's also because of your access to weaponry, and how aggressive of a country you guys can be.

We have fought alongside allies in past world wars, but we're not known by the world to be a big threat. Quite an advantage that I hope will remain. We kinda keep to ourselves & allies, involve ourselves with peacekeeping and humanitarian aid missions and military when deemed appropriate.

Apologies to the OP. That answers my former question about how did this thread get in this forum.

Hmm... trying to avoid wild responses is a laudable goal, and posting it here is a good effort to achieve that goal. And so far it seems to have worked. Just everyone don't tell anyone this thread is here, or it'll draw the people from the politics forum.

Shhhhhhh! ;)

About sticking its nose in everything... ugh, don't get me started. I'm not going to post my opinions because you said you didn't want wild responses. :) I'll just say "I agree with what Roh_Chris said on the first page of this thread" and leave it at that.

This sub-forum is like a whole entire forum unto itself... with unique dynamics and people. So other topics do work their way in sometimes. It keeps things lively. :)
I am very much for unique dynamics and people mixed with lively topics. It is like a forum in a forum.

Forgive me if I'm a Wade-come-lately, but I think we need to step back and refocus on our own affairs for awhile. We have decades of experience to show that every time we back one side in another country's dispute, we end up fighting them ten years later. Today's allies often become tomorrow's persecutors, dictators or terrorists, and ultimately, enemies.
I don't think that means that we should never come to the aid of oppressed people groups (i.e., Christians in Iraq, etc), but we need to help people without helping sides, if that makes sense.

nope it should'nt. absolutely not! The reason the way the world is as bad as it is right now is because the USA sticks it's nose into every other countries' business. Leave the other countries alone--the USA has enough problems of it's own.
