Oh my goodness, my high school boyfriend used to borrow his parents' Chevette to pick me up... The memories!!! Mostly of napping, oddly enough.

For some reason, he'd pick me up, we'd usually run to the grocery store or on a small errand, then go back to my parent's house... and fall asleep on the living room couch. LOL. What can I say... At least my parents always knew where I was. :)
Did you have to read road maps back then ;) Did u ever get lost? :D

Yes. And yes. Geography and reading maps were two of my worst subjects in school.

I drove from MI to AL twice and back by myself in the days before cell phones. It wasn't the 80's but I didn't have a phone and I didn't have a GPS, just a map I'd printed off MapQuest.

Praise God for GPS's!!! I actually have 2 of them now because I don't have a smart phone and the battery was dying in the one I had.

However, one day, I had both GPS's in my car at the same time, both turned on, and both directed to go to different places. And I had completely forgotten about the second one being in my backpack on the front seat.

So for the life of me, I couldn't understand why I was hearing 2 voices (I thought it was an echo of the first, seeing as my first GPS had a lot of funky things going on with the sound) and THEY WERE EACH TELLING ME TO GO IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. I was so confused for about 3 blocks until I finally remembered to look for (and turn off) my second GPS.

Sigh. Well, at least I know what to name them... "Rightie" and "Leftie".

I never claimed to be the brightest bulb in the bunch!!!

OOOHHHH, the Thomson Twins!

The system won't allow me to post all their videos here, but my favorites were:

"King For a Day"

"Doctor, Docter" (they actually used this in a Dr. Pepper commercial several years ago)

"Hold Me Now"

*sigh*

You're right about synthesizers being used frequently in 80's music, Mia, and it was something I loved.

Back then, MTV was just coming out and some of the videos actually used to tell stories, though I never saw many of them then because we didn't have cable. (That was one of my secret guilty pleasures when babysitting at certain people's homes... I would put the kids to bed, then stay up and watch MTV!)

the thompson twins were good--i saw them in concert a couple times, they opened for folks i can't keep straight. i remember they were super-boring as an act, but it was fun anyway.

and yeah, lots of synthesizers in the 80s. but nobody plays a synth like prince. i mean, really. think of all those great prince synth-rich songs from the "corvette" era.

and he even played it (uncredited) for stevie nicks on "stand back".

okay, i think it's time to go back to work now. : D

Perhaps!

I think that, the "spirit" of those days when ppl started to be more than beatniks, it was to unsult their conventions and, when I did it, I know more from the ppl I grew up and, today, to my own surprise, I cannot stop being shocked when I see men shaving their legs... or, when my own daughter asked me: "Get your legs shaved!"

It´s wird!

But I won´t do what others want me to do.

:)

Love it!! Gotta love the synthesizers. They seem to use that a lot in the 80s. :)

Song mentioned, Operation games?? 80s game I guess.

If you haven't seen the new version...they've got "Headphone Headache" and "Gamer's Thumb".

I got this for my niece...
