When my sister and I were growing up we had a tradition of sleeping under the Christmas tree on the 23rd. We eventually gave it up cause the floor was so uncomfortable. On Christmas Eve we would exchange gifts with my dad's side of the family along with a potluck, it was loads of fun. Then we would get together on Christmas for dinner and watch a movie one of us got. Since this is the first holiday without my grandma it's going to to be different for sure. On the plus side we have the newest edition still in the oven and something to definitely look forward to as the years to come.

Since my sister got married they come over Christmas morning and have cinnamon rolls for breakfast, then we open presents with them and begin making dinner although last year I got stuck making all the side dishes, but since I love to cook I enjoyed it. Since this is the last Christmas I will have living at home I will absorb every detail I possibly can.

Now baking is something I have done for the last few years. Last year in fact I made about 8 dozen cookies and fudge. It was a lot of work, but enjoyed having the ability to give them to family and friends. Plus that's a little trick I have not to eat any cookies :)

One thing that I would love to do when I have a family of my own is to rent a cabin in the mountains and enjoy the holidays without all the chaos in the stores and the television so it can be a quality time spent with the ones you love the most. I have always been in love with the idea of sitting around the fireplace with hot cocoa or coffee snuggled up in a blanket telling stories.

Brethren, it started as a tradition by Romans for its "Sun god" and December 25 was just a chosen date and declared as such. From then on, it is celebrated as the supposed "birthdate" of Jesus but in reality it is not (it was not winter when Jesus was born!). Nonetheless, except for its "commercialization," it is quite Christian-like if there will be giving, sharing, forgiving, love everyday of the year! Festive mood during the holidays is fine as long as you don't forget the true essence of being Christians: love God and your fellowmen! Peace be unto all! Give thanks for all the blessings from God! :)
