Liamson was talking about traveling the world to experience other cultures and peoples. This was always my family's passion as well.

How many places have you lived or visited during your lifetime? Which was the most interesting?

I've been to 47 of the 48 contiguous US States (Maine still to go).
I've been various places in Canada, Mexico, and Lima, Peru.

I love wilderness areas most of all. Glacier Park in Montana, Silverton, Colorado, Nakina, Ontario...
Weirdest place? Boulder, Colorado. There is such an odd mix of people there...students, tie-dyed hippies, rich people wearing fur, environmental eco-mentalists, etc...

I've been to Malaysia, India, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Fiji and Mexico all as mission trips and all though most of the time overseas was spent working with churches, hospitals and orphanages, It was all such a solid experience because we lived and did as the locals do. No hotels, hard to access transport, squattie potties! what to eat, what not to eat! proper culture mannerism. Definitely more enjoyable that way but I still would love to go back and do the whole tourist thing.

The US is really really amazing. So many cultures in so many places. Sweet Tea, the accents, the foods, its all so good everywhere. =)

Thats amazing Ashlaa! Yeah, most of my travel was with the Navy, no hotels mission oriented stuff but we still got to have a few hours and days to ourselves sometimes. And much like you I would love to do the tourist thing too. =)

That's great, Ashlaa!!! Seems like seeing it as you did would be so much more "real" than the tourist thing :)

Being part of a military family, I attended 22 different schools during my lifetime and have lived in Georgia, Texas, Missouri, Michigan, Virginia, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Indiana, 3 cities in Germany and two in France. I've visited all of Europe, Egypt (one of the most amazing things is the highway where headlights are forbidden at night), Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina.

My dad wanted to take me to Japan and Korea, but he passed away before he could, so it's something I still want to do..to see all of the things he told me about. I also want to see Australia and China.

In the U.S., I still want to see the Grand Canyon and the northwest states...Montana and the upper Pacific Coast (I have a thing for lighthouses). A relative did the Pacific Coast Highway thing, but I've only done the southern half.

It's an amazing world. But, like chat, the more we travel, the more we find that, people are just..people. And sometimes we in the US think we're the only ones with regional accents and dialects....we're so not. :) Learning about other cultures is really cool. Sometimes I don't think we take full advantage of learning possibilities online. Hmmmm....stuff for another thread. :) hahaha

The Oregon Coast is a rocky coast...(with sand etc too)..Just not as *beachy* as the east coast. (Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, Ocean City etc)

Many wonderful hours feeding the sea lions, and @ low tide playing with all the creatures that remained in the tidepooles. (anemoes, starfish, etc)

The summer camp I grew up going to was @ the coast too. (Outside Lincoln City)

You must go. You will love it. :) I hope your able to holiday there sooner than later. :) It will be worth it!

Astoria Oregon is historical too.
Definitely enough to fill a vacation!

I have not traveled as much as I would like.

I only have one stamp in my passport...and to be honest, that is one more than I ever though I would have. Going to England was a trip of a lifetime for a girl like me. :)

I have traveled quite a lot around the US. It can be so diverse, that there are many cultures and experiences to have right in the US.

One of my favorite travel experiences was hitting Four Corners. (where Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico intercect perfectly into one spot. You can litterally stand in four stated at once. :)

What I really enjoyed was the Native American Indians there. The handmade food they cooked right over a fire on stones in front of you. (I am craving some of that Indian Fry Bread as we speak!!!), the amazing pottery they have handcrafted and painted, the silver and terqouise jewelry...so detailed and quality!
Definitely a place I want to go back to some day for sure!

I also lived with the Amish in Ohio for 6 weeks when I was a senior in High School. Something I will never get to experience again, of course...but I do love Amish Country as well.

Now THAT is seriously cool. I like simplicity in my life, and the Amish are at the forefront of that... I love reading about the ways they do things.

Umm I live in New Zealand so travelling overseas is an extremely expensive and difficult undertaking for anyone (exception being Australia).

I went on a school exchange programme to Japan when I was 16 for a month, that was very wonderful and the people there are amazingly kind and hardworking. Learnt more Japanese in those 4 weeks than I did in 3 years at school.

I went to Vancouver, Canada last August to visit my future in laws for the first time. Awesome city, would move back there in an instant, if our situation changed.

My fiance and I drove to Seattle and spent a day there, but it hardly felt like I was in a different country. Going over a land border was a completely foreign thing to me and I was a little insulted when a US border guard accused me of getting into the US so I could dump my Canadian, get pregnant to an American and live off alimony (whatever the hell that is). Didnt help that I laughed my head off at such a stupid idea. Snort.. Why would I want to live in a land that calls Taco Bell mexican food!! Lol. IHOP was pretty cool though. And that cheap christian bookstore in Bellingham was awesome.

I've been to Europe, as a tourist long ago when 15. Was fun, good times, not a mission trip. I've been on fun trips too that were fun and unforgettable growing up.to mazatlan and Puerto vallarta . Not seen all the states, 40 or so, Biggest trip was college roommate and I going from home area in Puget Sound to Florida cross country. I was sure ready for that month-long trip one year removed from college. I packed up a cooler full of books and magazines and had my Sony walkway. My roommate saw all that book stuff and said , 'what is all that for?'
I said, 'reading , keeping busy on trip.'
Well, needless to say, I read ZERO if those books as he and I talked, talked, talked. Funny, college roommates three years and we talked but not like this time, well, he said too that getting to our ultimate destination: Disneworld , would be great, once there, but he also said 'getting there will be half the fun.' I kind of rolled my eyes when he said this. Well, my roommate was wrong, getting there was not half the fun, it was over half the fun :)

I want to see Kakadou National Forest in northern Australia , to see the many snakes and creatures def not in northwest usa, we have garter snakes!! Not poisonous, not big, not cool;)

Well, I've effectively hijacked, oh, Venice, too, I wanna reAllly badly go there. (I hear they have great bathrooms to go in:) ).
I've been on mission trip in states too like Charlotte, the one I remember most but that will be for another thread :)
Ok, I'm done spanning, oh, but to leave this with fresh fruit morning thoughts in Maz. and Puerto Vallarta.

Eh...I grew up in Michigan, so Canada is almost considered Michigan's Eastern Peninsula.

I've been to 5 continents as a tourist and lived in Singapore, Australia, and Switzerland as a student. Love The Alps and the white sand beaches in Australia.
