Haha. Wow. You guys are awesome!!!

Nice to see such exemplary sports - foosball, Risk, petanque ( had to google that) , archery !!

I now know what to ask some of you if I ever catch you guys - on chat or whatever.

Oh and Austin - Throwball and khokho seem to be very Indian games. Throwball is like volleyball - tailored just for women. You should google kho kho and kabaddi . They are also both Indian origin sports...

And for that matter chess is Indian too! (Now would you look at that! )

Thanks guys! You're all sporty and really cool :)

Anand is/was an AMAZING chess player. Is kho kho the game where people line up facing in different directions and chase a guy running around between/around them? It looks like fun. I don't understand throwball, it just looks like they're throwing a ball over the net.

Yep. Anand will face Carlsen again, this November for the World Chess Championship. Carlsen is so young though. It's amazing! :)

And yes Khokho is that game and I already told you throwball is really girly but fun! :D

Meanwhile I was thinking of this movie - It came out quite a few years back - I think I was in ninth grade. It's a movie on the Indian National Women's Team called Chak De India

It really catapulted hockey at least for a few years. Then the interest died out sadly.

After all, we are a poor country. Sports has never been appreciated much.

I love this movie though because it really brings out sportsmanship and women empowerment. It also shows the diversity of India and how these women who come from all different backgrounds get it together!

It's one of my top movies of all time.

This is an inspirational song from the movie -

PS - It has one of those goosebumpy scenes where there's an incident of eve teasing (public harrassment of women in India is called that) and the entire hockey team ends up being united in fighting against those hooligans.

Really cool! Very filmy, but really cool :)

Also, Mary Kom!!!

Watch that movie. It's based on real life Indian boxer Mary Kom, who this year won the gold medal at the Asian Games, one year after giving birth.

She has three children :) So inspirational.

She's also started a fight academy to teach young girls how to defend themselves against sexual violence.

This is a bit on her from wikipedia -

"Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom (born 1 March 1983), also known as MC Mary Kom, or simply Mary Kom,[SUP][1][/SUP] is an Indian boxer. She is a five-time World Amateur Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships.[SUP][2][/SUP] Nicknamed "Magnificent Mary", she is the only Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, competing in the flyweight (51 kg) category and winning the bronze medal.[SUP][3][/SUP] She has also been ranked as No. 4 AIBA World Women's Ranking Flyweight category"

She was portrayed by Priyanka Chopra in the movie Mary Kom, released this year. Pretty epic.

It showcases Mary's rise - from a very, very poor family to the heights of boxing

I have played numerous sports and I have also watched numerous sports.

1) Long jump - I used to be a long jumper since my 5th grade. I think I even won a bronze in my school athletics. But because I was flat-footed I often sprained my ankle. Many injuries later, I quit this game.

2) 1500 m - I still run this. I have one school medal in this. I will soon start training to run a marathon.

3) Volleyball - I loved this sport. But I wasn't tall enough to continue playing this sport. I still play occasionally.

4) 4 x 100 m relay - I have a couple of medals in this sport. I prefer running the 1st leg because I have good reflexes and I love running the bends.

5) Chess - I am probably an amateur at this sport but I love playing this game. I prefer not to play with the time-limit because of which my games usually last for a couple of hours.

6) Badminton - This sport runs in my family though I am not very good at it. My maternal granddad played it semi-professionally. So did my mom. I play a bit of it but I am an amateur.

7) Football - I love this sport. I don't call it soccer because well, this is played by the foot. I follow this sport by watching important matches (most matches of Manchester United and World Cup/Euro matches). I used to play right-back but later I switched to defensive midfielder. I think football is a beautiful sport. I don't play anymore because I have an injury in my right knee.

8) Kho-kho - I played this for my school team. My 'house' won a tournament in the intra-school games. I love this sport. Pure adrenalin. :)

Though I am not a fan of cricket, I appreciate all sport. I occasionally watch some interesting Test matches and an odd game or two when CSK play.

About watching sports:

I think sports is a test of human endurance and fitness. So there is nothing wrong with watching a game. However, I do not encourage "armchair critics" or "internet trolls" who cannot play for peanuts but would talk as if they were champions at the game. I would love to watch a game with people who can genuinely appreciate what they are watching.

P.S. Thank you for posting the video. It was amazing to watch him weave through that mass of bodies and score touch-downs. :)
In American, we call that taking it to Da House...lol

Anand is an amazing Chess player. You right about kho-kho. And check out kabaddi too. I think Americans should play kabaddi. :D

If that's a compliment, then I will take it gladly. Thank you! :D
