Indian women have unibrows??

That's the first time I have even thought that there could be Indian women who have unibrows. Such stereotypes are made by couch-potatoes and arm-chair critics. If you have not come to India, don't make stereotypes about the us.

Sometimes I daydream about giving my wife a foot massage when we are both home from work. She complains about having to stand and walk around all day in heels; I tell her to make herself comfortable. Then I ask her if she's hungry and she says not at the moment, barely shaking her head; she had a long day. So I get her a glass of her favorite wine from the fridge and flop down on the other side of the couch. Then I gently grab her right foot first and start giving her a s l o w foot massage while she's sipping from glass. I am also pretty tired from work myself but massage and squeeze her foot in a way that says 'hey, how was your day?'. I look up and make eye contact with her time to time and can tell she looks relaxed. And happy. Pretty happy. And that makes me happy as her husband. I ask her what she wants for dinner and she says my shrimp pasta with vodka sauce that I make time to time. I nod in silent, eyes closed with a mild smile on my face, as I keep massaging her foot.

Why are so many Americans in love with the KJV? It's so outdated and difficult to understand.

KJV is the last authorized and only accurate version. Not only that, it is so well written, you can easily memorize portions without even trying. Or perhaps this is the supernatural annointing on it.

Uh... no. That's not true at all. It was authorized by King James, not God. All proper Bibles (I'm not counting JW versions and Mormons etc.) are the inspired Word of God, albeit translated into other languages.

My findings have shown that, while the KJV is more true to form than many other translations, it is not the 'most accurate' or "only" accurate translation. There are others that are more word-for-word, while KJV slightly leans towards a thought-for-thought translation of scripture (I stress slightly).

It's not bad at all when you have your thee's, thou's, and thy's sorted out. Words like loveth and desireth....stuff like that came easy to me even when I was 6 or 7 years old. I've discussed this with you once or twice before but I'll give you a clear example where changing the wording actually changes the meaning of the verse when compared to other versions. Take Mathew 5:22 for example

NIV

But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, 'Raca,' is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell. But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, 'Raca,' is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

KJV

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

So whats the meaning here? Is it anyone who is angry with their brother period? Or anyone who is angry with his brother without a cause? Also, are they subject to judgement or are they in danger of the judgement?

There are tons of points of interest when it comes to word omissions (even a few entire verses are omitted if I remember correctly), changes, and usage. Little bit here, little bit there....it adds up. The KJV is just the best English translation that is also popular in most American eyes. Of course the KJV is originally derived from the Greek so if there's ever any confusion about which verse is most accurate, going to the Greek usually settles it. The KJV agrees with the Greek quite nicely, I think it's an excellent translation for that reason.

Not to mention, the NIV is also published by the same company that prints the satanic bible. We tend not to like that too much :p. That's not even speaking of the other many English translations, that's simply NIV vs KJV

I have been very naïve lately ....
Sometimes the craving for innocence and purity in our lives does not mean that we are devoid of sin and that other people are either...or that people have to have a similar perception as ours.

Tired.

I'm sorry to hear about your parents continuing marriage problems Love. :( I am wondering if him being gone for prolonged periods has helped or made it worse? He just returned from a long trip, I think I remember? Either way, it's so hard, on them as well as you and your brother.

I'm thankful though that your grandmother is starting to recover! I'll be praying for her, your grandfather, and both your parents. *hugs*
Thank you <3

she confided in me tonight and I planned on just listening, but I felt like God was poking and prodding at me to speak up when she started justifying the state of their marriage. I spoke up and tried to do it as lovingly as possible but of course she got upset. I left the room with her still being angry at me, and I feel terrible. All I can do is trust that God had a reason for it.

You're right about that example from the NIV but all translations have some issues. That said, it's important to read or check a few different translations to gain a better understanding of what the authors said. As for omissions? It's far more likely that the KJV added elements rather than the modern versions. The modern translations generally have much better scholarship due to more recent findings etc. And when you mention that the KJV is originally derived from the Greek, you say that like it's something out of the ordinary. All good translations go back to the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Koine Greek. I'm kind of confused.

Agree one hundred percent with the bold part. The average person usually doesn't do that though (at least I'm assuming most people don't, I think most people just pick a favorite and stick with it rather than cross reference). And I didn't mean to imply that KJV is out of the ordinary as far as being derived from the Greek, just that the Greek is always what you go to if there is a perceived conflict between two different translations (Like the example I used, going to the Greek almost always clears the issue up). I do tend to believe it reflects the Greek much more accurately than other versions I have read though.

I'm not really trying to argue a particular point here, just telling you the American reasoning process :p. The American KJV allegiance is not as strong here as it once was though, a lot of people prefer the NIV because they like the more modern wording. As far as additions, omissions, etc.... that's a huge debate in and of itself. The textual criticisms that go back and forth among people involved in that line of academia is like bible discussion troll wars to the tenth power, lol. I've personally always been satisfied with the Greek we have had for centuries upon centuries when in doubt. The Greek is king if you really want to talk what version is the most superior. I wonder if Spanish only speaking people have the same issues we do with our different versions.

I was in a store the other day and saw a bin of the big-est, pink-est, fluffy-est, most huge-eyed My Little Ponie in history.

I was just thinking of how much fun it would be to send one to Shour! :)

I was going to send out Christmas cards this year, and I feel bad that I didn't!

I also cannot sleep anymore, so I'm up at an outrageously early time.

I never sleep at night.. ever. I think its bad for my health. Yet its so fun. I can't ever sleep because I feel like I'm missing things at night. Its just become a habit of mine. When I was little I had this weird anxiety of having to go to bed at a certain time. I was fine if I just fell asleep whenever I wanted to, but if I had a set bed time and was put to bed I'd have horrible anxiety. So I'd sneak out of bed at night when I was a little kid. I always dreamed about seeing the sun rise. I was staying with a friend in the first grade and one day we FINALLY stayed up long enough to see the sun. Now I don't think I've ever slept "right" on a schedule since then. Sure I've slept through some nights but its just not my thing. :p

Well shoot, I go off to get a good night's sleep and a discussion on KJV vs other versions breaks out. Again.

Here's the short version of what I think about bible versions: KJV is good, but you have to read it for a while before you can understand it. NKJV is easier to understand, and just as good. ASV is also easier to understand, and just as good. ESV is handy to have on my bible program sidebar for comparative view. NIV has some... issues with people translating verses in a way they thought the verses ought to read, rather than how the verses were originally written.

From the little I've read, the ESV is a very good translation of the Bible. Probably one of the most solid and readable to date.
