Well I can't necessarily avoid it because it's made quite often in my house. And I already avoid dairy (that's actually the biggest trigger for it), gluten, and most pork (bacon being the exception). If I were living on my own things would be much different.
Ok I just want to chime in to say that if your family is neglecting to take care of you on something as serious as your health and diet, it is time to get in people's faces and be demanding. If they are going to only give you food that makes you sick, then they should provide the medicine to treat it as well. It is not your responsibility to suffer in silence just so you don't upset the rest of your family (especially since they're all older and should be more mature than you).

If your family is unwilling or incapable of dealing with this, seek help from your church family.

Yeah...this is true...if they have foods like that again, I'll be asking for an alternative meal to be made. I'm not going to eat that again. Just like I avoid eating everything else that triggers me. I'll let them know what foods have been bothering me. My sister and her basically husband lived off of tacos, pizza, and spaghetti when they were living out on their own. They try to do the same thing here and I try not to stand for it. It's not easy, though. They're kinda stubborn and not exactly open-minded when it comes to food.

Maybe they can instead make gluten-free, dairy-free tacos. I'm sure it can be done. There are probably recipes for it on the net. I'd look but I have to leave right now to go somewhere. It would be healthier, more nutritious tacos too. This is one of the things I learned in nutrition class... that you don't have to give up your favorite foods, you can just learn a healthier way to make them. :)

Yeah. We actually do make gluten-free dairy-free tacos. I think it's the spices that are getting to me...why the hades am I saying that at 18 years old? I'm too young to be saying stuff like that. -_-

Ooooooh that looks like the den floor at my grandparents' house! Yes indeed that should be uncovered! How long has that been under dirt MissChris? That kind of floor was built to last.

It's been buried for well over 30 years, I think. My in-laws lived in this house for 25 years before we did, and they both said they had no idea that nice driveway was under there.

I could never eat spicy stuff either. They should make some with no spices in it for you, or maybe put the spices in small bowls so each person can choose to apply them to their taco or not. If its in the meat, maybe they can prepare some meat for you that doesn't have the spices in it. I have a niece with serious food allergies and those are some of the things they do for her.

MissCris -

A pressure washer would probably make that stone floor look like new.

I have been having really weird dreams the last few nights. No idea why. No nightmares, no same dream that keeps coming back, just a montage of random weirdness every night. Maybe my life is too normal and my brain compensates for that at night.

yes. this ^^^

Sometimes I do a small batch of curried chicken thighs, and have another pan using different spices, such as cumin and peppers for a Mexican feast. Both are probably too spicy for what you want, but it doesn't take much more effort to have two different pans going on at the same time with different spices or different amounts of seasoning.

So you dirty up one more pan! You can negotiate by doing the dishes (your favorite thing!! :p) or...do you ever cook for them? Make their comfort foods at the same time that you prepare something your system can tolerate.

We have a "dish washing schedule" that I'm completely terrible at following. Not because I don't like doing them, though I hate it. I just never remember. Though...I do remember tonight is my night. I'll have to do that, though. Tell them I'll clean up my mess but an alternative has to be made for me. I refuse to live in pain and believe that this is the norm, especially if it can be avoided in the first place. It's annoying to have to do all this, I mean it's crazy enough living in a house that can't tolerate gluten, dairy, oats, and corn (not all of those are my allergies, some of those are my older sister's allergies. Not the one who's getting married), but now I don't handle spices and acidic foods very well, I don't handle pork very well, AND we have someone who hates vegetables with a burning passion. I keep saying over and over, something has to give, though it doesn't happen. I guess if I want something to happen I gotta do it myself and play the villain. I love being the villain...

Contact local churches or charities. A church down the street from me has a "baby closet" where local mothers can shop for free or for trade. There may be something like that in your area.
Or talk to someone in your church who has a two or three year old. Even if they don't still have the baby clothes, they'll probably know where to go.

Y'know, as fast as babies grow out of clothes there really oughta be more community closets for baby clothes. It wouldn't be too expensive for a whole community to maintain it, and it sure would cut down on the amount of clothes being bought and (usually) thrown out. And it would cut out a lot of a new parent's worries.
I might be able to find something around here somewhere. Really, clothing isn't much of a problem, I have tons of family members who make clothing readily available to me. It's the other things, like a car seat for my daughter (she's grown out of hers, and I'll need the one she has for my little boy when he gets here). She's grown out of her crib as well, it's time for a toddler bed for my princess.
Out of all the things I have left on my list, there are very few I can see being given away. Most of the things I need, are more expensive, and that's why I don't have them yet.
However, since I live in Utah, I have the KSL classified ads that I check frequently. The problem with that is: getting the $10-$20 needed for the things they have there. Yeah, we're so tight on funds that I can't even afford a $10 car seat right now.

I don't have a lot of time to look into right now, but there are quite a few agencies that can help you with those things- the first place to start would be the local WIC program. They can at least point you to the right people who can help you get a car seat. I know that in Colorado, the state patrol also helps with car seats, so you might try talking to them as well.

I assume or hope you get WIC help, it's a great program. Talk to your counselor there about the car seat, they should be able to point you in the right direction. OK here's another idea, I'm not sure how comfortable you'd be with this but you could start a Go fund me page. Just for the baby stuff.

When I had my Daughter I was in your position, heck I'd donate what I could to you. I can't tell you the number of people that helped us.

Running a live session of Linux Mint: Rebecca (KDE). I could get used to this (would still need Windows for some things).

Siberian: KDE is... overblown. Cinnamon is better. But KDE is for sure handy for impressing people with the effects. Like the desktop cube. Or cylinder.

Yeah. That's what you can do with that Mint KDE you're trying out right now. You can do that from the live disk even.
