Och, I'd forgotten about the Native American costume. You're welcome to save and upload that picture here, Cat, if you want. I don't like digging through my old FB photos; if you got back that far, you probably know why. But I know it will get some laughs, so pull it on out.
So, here's the story behind that one:
El Paso Wind Symphony decided to program a Western themed concert, which was fine because most of the repertoire was really good. (Any concert where we get to play John Williams' score to
The Cowboys is a good concert.) We were told to dress as cowboys and cowgirls instead of our usual dress black. Since I had long dark hair at the time, and my south Asian features often had people assuming I was a Native American ALL THE TIME anyways, I asked the personnel director if I could come as "an Injun" instead. Notice that I did not specify gender. He agreed, and the plan was ON! Only my best friend and The Ex (we were still together at the time) knew that I was planning to cross-play it, and even they didn't know until two days before.
I essentially became the star of that concert. I had to pose for SO many photos, and I'm probably on half of the symphony's Facebooks, just untagged, as a result. We also were going to recognize the personnel director for his service that night, so at intermission, I was nominated to present the gift to him, so I had to come up with an impromptu speech, and I told the audience that I came "bearing a gift from my people." (I didn't do a fake accent or anything; I played it straight.) Fun times.
Now, as far as this little gem goes, it was from my school's annual Halloween concert from last year:
It was actually pretty easy to piece together; the real fun was in building the freeze ray. I didn't want to deal with paint, so after building it from floral foam (the dense green foam used in plastic floral arrangements) and PVC pipe, I "painted" it with regular grey duct tape and black duct tape. Most of the kids had no idea who I was supposed to be, but that's okay. It's fun to cosplay. ^_^
