kenthomas: like forever ago you said something about whiter shade of pale. remember?
well, i happen to adore that song. i always have. a lot of music from that era is precious to me because it can transport me to the little kid, riding with my dad to someplace fun, like the santa cruz boardwalk, or candlestick park, or that long road to tahoe where we'd stop at sam's along the way.
anyway. i was at an annie lenox concert a million years ago. well, technically, it wasn't actually a concert, more like a showcase. but because it was right before she started her career and she was in between gigs, she was playing some of her eurythmics stuff along with other random stuff. anyway, and she performed it. i had chills. she hadn't recorded it yet, and was just performing it acoustically with her band. it was one of those rare musical moments where everything just stood still, the air is full of fragrant shades of purple and glitter, while all that wonder inspiring delight of unmeasured portion and excessive flowery wonder.
she had closed her set with it, and it was a small enough venue that i was pretty sure that she wasn't coming back, which seemed only fair.
it was spectacular. while her studio version of it is pretty, i find it to be a bit swollen and overproduced. anyway, your post reminded me of so much. in the very best ways. : )
