Food for thought:

"Is there really such an instance as one where everyone is happy/satisfied or that all parties benefit?"

I'd like to think "Yes!", and have a few scenarios by which this holds true. However, altruism, for example, is at one's own expense. The antithesis of altruism (selfishness) also holds true (being at the expense of others by which something acts).

So, that said, in the majority of cases I think of...something or someone benefits at something or someone else's expense.

Personally, I find that to be a troubling reality.
I think it helps to look at the sum of the whole instead of discrete instances. Sure if you break it down small enough, it's pretty easy to define how one person pays the cost and the other gets a benefit, but friendships and relationships are long term things. So for example in a given friendship this year I may be reaping more of the benefit as I go through life mess X, but next year my friend may be drawing on my support to deal with life mess Y. And the fact that we care enough about each other that the cost and disadvantage doesn't seem all that significant, but just the natural thing to do is what makes it work.

And yeah I think there can also be relational synergy where the benefits gained in the relationship are far greater than the sum of the cost in time and effort put in.

As the rain hides the stars,
As the autumn mist hides the hills,
As the clouds veil the blue of the sky,
So the dark happenings of my lot
Hide the shining of your face from me.
Yet, if I may hold your hand in darkness,
It is enough, since I know that,
Though I may stumble in my going,
You do not fall.
(Celtic prayer)

Grrrrr....

I know I'm oversensitive about some things these days, but when the church website has a link for single adults ministry and you click it and it redirects to a young adults 18-30 small group that looks like it's for anyone married or single. Well where exactly does that leave me (other than wanting to flame mail church leaders about it)?

Does anyone know what's the deal with posting in forums in the past week or so? I often get some added text in my post. Something about GMT and Text to Speech-language options.

RoboOp's been doing some upgrades to the site, so that's probably why. I had a few problems too like I'd edit a post and click save but it would post the unedited version no matter how many times I tried to redo it. It only happened once though, a couple days ago.

Okay. Cheers, brother. That makes sense. It's a little annoying for now. But I'll live.
