We tried that whole banning alcohol thing. All that really did was empower organized crime. So then we untried it.

But it does make a good argument for those who want to legalize other drugs: if alcohol and some prescriptions have just as bad or worse records of causing impaired driving, irresponsible behavior, etc why do we allow those drugs to be legal and others not? (not that I am in favor of any kind of drug use that impairs people's ability to function, but I am a big fan of consistency)
Well, that's my point
alcohol should be banned, but is allowed
I am not a fan of "the government is out to get us" ideas, but it does seem to me that they are just choosing the easy way out / the way that earns them money

I think alcohol is kept legal because the lawmakers themselves want to be able to have a drink.

Yea, maybe that's the simplest answer.

I remember listening to a radio program once where they said that if sugar (that is, refined sugar) was "invented" today, it probably would be considered a drug and get banned. ... imagine the riots if it did get banned now :p

People are too busy blaming something when they are messing up. We're blaming alcohol, drugs, guns, cars etc instead of putting the blame right where it belongs. Banning things will not solve any problems. People have to start working on their problems themselves, and start addressing their real problems.

Ok so I just watched an episode of Dr. Who... Truth is, I haven't tried watching it again since the 1980's and it seems like there are a lot of Who fans here so I decided to give it another chance..

I watched an episode from season 3 (2008 I think) where they were on a large spaceship that was about to be burned up because it was hurtling towards a sun. I found it interesting, suspenseful, riveting even. I looked past the old-school-looking special effects and the not-so modern looking spaceship and found it to be an entertaining show. It certainly relies on the acting sort of like a broadway show would, and the story was like a Star Trek episode but without the high tech equipment and soldierly crew. I'll give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. :)

The chance of me watching more episodes is likely, but it's still no match for Better Call Saul or Vampire Diaries..

If people individually are to work things out, that means anarchy... and we know how well that works

When someone posts a .gif that has text typed across it, does anybody else read the lips of the character in the .gif to see if it matches what is typed?

...Yeah, me neither. >.>

At times, but the general rule of thumb is 'no'. Most do it for effect...not as a solidly-linked movie quote clip.

Haha! Yes, I do. But I can't read lips very well.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Arial]If after Kirk ye bide a wee,
There's some would like to speak to ye,
If after Kirk ye rise and flee
We all seem cauld and still to ye.
The one that's in the seat with ye
Is stranger here than ye, maybe.
All here have got their fears and cares,
Add ye your soul unto our prayers,
Be ye our angel unawares.

After all the sci fi talk, I completely misinterpreted Kirk on the first reading.

I like sci-fi and I don't know much about Star Trek, but I too thought she was talking about Captain Kirk.

I never quite got "into" Star Trek.
There are so many weird series...
- what was the name of that... undersea sci fi thingy again? Seaquest or something?

I miss Time Trax, even though it was ridiculous

Maybe I didn't say this clear enough, but people have to take responsibilty for their own wrongdoings, the way it is now too many are blaming something outside themselves when they are doing somenthing they weren't supposed to be doing in the first place. In court, before the judge, they are blaming alcohol, same old story when someone has commited adultery, they are blaming what they did on something else. What I'm saying is that people need to take responsibilty, I'm not saying that Mr./Mrs. Whomever is supposed to work things out individually, I'm saying that they should take responsibility when required.

Ah
