hmmmmm.....so a while back I was the musical director for a project that a Christian non-profit group did....I invoiced them for our agreed upon amount, and have not gotten paid yet. They had some setbacks, and I have been understanding, but they have also taken on some other projects they did not need to instead of paying me, so it hasn't been a priority with them.
Based on 1 Cor 6:1-7, taking them to small claims court would not be the appropriate response, though I would probably win, so do I - -
A) give them the invoice again, inquiring about the status?
B) give them the invoice again, and cc their board, so they are aware of the situation?
C) let it go, requesting that they provide documentation that the services rendered can be considered a donation so that I can at least use this for tax purposes?
D) Do nothing and just accept that I have been defrauded (vs. 7 below)
It's NOT about the money. I can afford the not getting paid, as this is not my main source of income. I see it as a chance for them to correct themselves too. I believe that God will honor a Christian non-profit that is doing His work and is also conducting ethical business practices.
Anyhoo - - here is 1 Cor 6:1-7. I feel the Lord wants me to tie up this loose end, but other than that, I don't feel Him leading any particular way. I'm okay not getting paid, but I don't want to be a doormat either.
Thoughts? Advice?
Thanks in advance!
Steve
[h=3]1 Corinthians 6:1-7[/h]English Standard Version (ESV)
[h=3]Lawsuits Against Believers[/h]6 When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? [SUP]2 [/SUP]Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? [SUP]3 [/SUP]Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! [SUP]4 [/SUP]So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? [SUP]5 [/SUP]I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, [SUP]6 [/SUP]but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? [SUP]7 [/SUP]To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded?
