I just saw Fight Club for the first time (credits rolling).

It was made 18 years ago. I remember when it was new and my parents told me I couldn't watch it.

They were right. I probably shouldn't have seen it now.

Smart parents. Okay movie.

Edward Norton was once REALLY young. Brad Pitt spiked his hair and, speaking objectively, he is one of the few men hot enough to wear a shirt of maple leaves and not look like a putz.

I'm also thinking of that time I sang "Where is my mind?" complete with the wolf calls in front of the Dean of a school I was going to.

I was alone in the library late at night. Belted out the second "whhoooohooo" and turned. There he was behind me.

Was he really me?

My response to WWJDK's response for leaving will be in the form of two clips from a better 90's movie than Fight Club

.

Sometimes we're only as good as the information we receive. Other times we're ants living in willful ignorance.

The fine line between the two is worth several books and a good teaser blog post.

I think my proxy ant observers are pretty reliable because they're blood relations. :p

I actually really liked that film as a teenager : p Thought it was neat.

Its also how I found out about the Pixies, I remember hearing Where Is My Mind when the credits rolled and all that, and I thought it was the coolest song I had ever heard, haha. I think the song itself really made the end of the film.

Honestly, I think it's even more subversive when you break out of adolescence. If I saw it when I was 15 or so, I would have thought "Okay, crazy dude, Brad Pitt, fights, explosions, etc. I'm down! Pass the pop corn!"

Now it's "Mmmmman. Working life is banal. It's been five whole years since my last fight. I've grown soft. I WANT TO FEEL ALLLLIIIIIVE!!!!"

Nnnnnot a healthy movie to watch when there is a possibility of Edward Norton's character being relatable.

That fight was actually funny if you were an on-looker.

This really big guy in his late 60's tried to pick me up and toss me off his stoop. I resisted.

If the fight continued for much longer, I assume he would have just let me go out of fatigue anyhow.

I think xkcd said it best.

I'm not saying it's all bad, but that movie has not aged as well as my younger self was convinced it would.

If that is Tinuviel's picture, she looks like she belongs in a North Dakota travel brochure. :p
I cut out the dead deer...I didn't figure that would be widely appreciated. Besides, I didn't want people confused as to which one in the picture was me ;).

THe last fight I remember wasn't a real fight... I was sparring in karate class and the woman I was sparring with did a quick sidekick to my chest with light contact, and that wouldn't have been a problem except she was wearing a cast on her foot. It felt like I got hit with a rock! (true story)

I didnt like it cuz I liked watching people beat each other up, it was really suspenseful and all that : p

It was a neat film. I havent seen it in a really long time, obviously. But it was neat when I was younger.

I am going to get my DL all over again.

I had one in my home country and it is valid in most parts of the world, however for long term purposes it is always best to get a DL in the state you are going to be in.

Anyway today, I was reminded of something that happened more than a decade ago. I was around 10 or 11 years old.

My family and I were going on a holiday, driving through one of the most beautiful picturesque spots in the world ever. We were going through the Western Ghats and the roads that cut through the mountains are narrow and hairpin-like.

On one of the edges without any barricade - probably one of the most desolate ones with a particular sharp turn we were met by a drunk bus driver in a head on collision.

Our car was pushed to the side with the front totaled. We were so close to death. Miraculously none of us were harmed and my father who was driving at the time, had the presence of mind to maneuver us out of the death drop.

As I look back at it now I can clearly see God's Hand in it protecting me. I can't put a purpose on it because I know lives can be lost in such a flash.
Just one careless moment and your life can change. Sometimes it's not even your fault. You just happen to be there in the wrong moment, the worst time - who knows.

There is so much pain and suffering out there in the world. I don't know what life is about to be honest, but when I can - I just want to be grateful and be kind.

Meanie :p
Crawfish season is over and that's bound to make his low country boil sub-par. I'll bring the flour if you make some of those cupcakes I saw pictures of somewhere around here.
