I'm happy you're feeling accepted by him. Hugs and loves my friend.

I have the best family. My father-in-law gave me another fantastic gift- his grandmother’s cedar chest and her silver. He gave them to Me, and not my husband, because- “I know you’ll put your heart and soul into taking care of them”.

That really moved me. My father-in-law is a cop, his father was one too before being killed during a routine traffic stop. And this cedar chest belonged to his mother, about whom I’ve heard dozens of stories from my husband and his parents; she was a wonderful woman, and I’ve often felt sad that she passed away a few years before I married into her family so I never got to meet her. She was well-loved by my father-in-law, maybe especially because she was the only real link he had to a father he never really got to know. So for him to give me these items that belonged to her...well. I think maybe he’s accepted me finally.

He said he doesn’t mind if I refinish it- but I can’t imagine doing anything but restoring the top. It’s in amazing shape and the inside is beautiful. I’m kind of terrified I’ll ruin it.

And now that I have spent my evening being sappy and sentimental in between trying to watch HGTV but mostly pausing shows for half an hour at a time...it’s probably time for bed but I doubt I’ll make it there before 2 a.m.

I have this terrible cat. Well, four terrible cats, but this one is the worst. Her name is Izzy and she once made me wear a dead bird on my foot.

Every time I eat cereal, she hovers. She sits behind my head on the back of the couch, just waiting, watching, lurking around. She can hold it together pretty well through most of the bowl, but when I get to the last couple of bites and she hears the spoon clink against the bowl, she goes on high alert- eyes big, ears twitching, nose right next to my ear.

She loses it when I lift the bowl up to my mouth to drink the milk. Juuuust as the bowl touches my lip, I hear “mreoow!”

Lower the bowl, all is quiet.

Lift it again...”mreoow!”

This pattern can continue indefinitely- usually. Normally we go through this a few times before I get bored and just drink the milk and put the bowl in the sink.

Today! She’d had enough.

I lifted the bowl to begin the funny mreoow game, and Izzy put her front paws on my shoulder. I lowered the bowl, and she put her back paws on my shoulder too. I took a second to inform her that she’s not a parrot...which was exactly how long it took her to get her front paws INSIDE the bowl and slosh it everywhere. I set the bowl down to get a towel and returned to find she had already finished off the milk and was contentedly licking her paws while giving me a look that clearly said, “I win, human.”

...I’m beginning to think that this story explains exactly why she made me wear the bird shoe.
MissCris I grew up with cats - we were never without at least one cat in all my formative years - and my mother loves cats, but none of our cats would ever DREAM of doing this because my mother didn't put up with any junk. If your cat were at mom's house this cat would have learned real quick not to pull that. There would be a swatted nose and a cat running for high ground before ever the milk was wiped up.

3/4 of our cats know better than to pull a stunt like Izzy did. Izzy, she’s this cranky old thing. She’s getting bolder in her old age and does a lot of things she’s never been allowed to do. I find her on the kitchen counter every morning, where she is definitely not supposed to be. This morning she knocked down and shattered someone’s water glass. Her own water is five feet away, but I guess it’s more fun to go scavenging for stuff on the counter.

And the frustrations begin again. Grr, I always say I'm going to quick work, but don't because of the kids. But right now, despite the fact that I love all my students, I just feel like giving up, because it feels like the admin don't really care about the kids or teachers. And honestly, I know most of the teachers are feeling really demoralized at this point. So many of the teachers have been out left and right. The other day I even heard a teacher tell a child that she know longer cares what he does, because he refuses to care, and she's given up on trying to get him to care, because you can't make someone care. And several parents have been making comments to the admin that they don't listen to them, and let the kids do whatever they want. They don't force the kids to be respectful. And as I said, the only reason I haven't left is because of my students. I don't want to be the number 8th teacher that leaves during the year.
I am sorry to hear this. It sounds like your school has got struck by a poor management and that your workingconditions are less than optimal. I had the same feeling when I taught bassoon at a music school in Oslo. I was perhaps spoiled by working in Finland, but it just seemed to me that the management wanted us to teach as many as possible in as little as possible time. And on top of that, bind the teachers to meetings and compulsory activities that were unreasonable for me that just got paid for half a day a week. On top of that, my "dear" co worker asked the management to just get the advanced students and get longer lessons with them, so that all the small (and untalented) ones fell on me. I quit. And I haven't taught bassoon after that.

Sometimes it is better to quit than to compromize your own standards. You can only love your work and your students if you get the right frames at work to do so.

Good luck, Violakat. (I just listened to Bruch Viola music, BTW.... Wonderful music)

I think your cat is gorgeous, she just wanted to have some, after all she can not make herself a bowl of anything. She is dependent on you to feed her.
You could make her, a little bowl of cereal to eat while you have yours? She will purr with love, instead of meow & beg for some.
Please give her a tickle & a pat from me, thanx! ;)

Love & Hugs!

What do you mean "back in your day"? You're still a youngster.

Enjoy your youth. It passes fast.

Suddenly Lynx transformed into a neolithic caveman. And I thought I was old.......

What can I say. Grab a bassoon or start knitting (or bake bread). Anger is better suppressed than acted out. (I just have to throw and break som plates first)

I actually wasn't taking about anger, I'm talking about hateful aggression... people calling others racist just because they are white or conservative, making threats, saying that all conservatives are russian sympathizers and stupid, clueless, idiots... and that christians are all mentally ill... that's what I was talking about.

...And that is coming from both celebrities as well as everyday people!

...not to mention all the fat-shaming, trump-hating, christian-bashing, media-bias, getting offended, PC agenda-pushing, meat-hating, homophobic-labeling, vaccine-pushing, gun-hating, profanity-loving, atheist-scientist-sympathizing, global-warming-carbon-footprint-shaming, etc... Hateful aggression is off the charts!

I read this poem to my class on Wednesday... In Norwegian. It describes a wedding where two men fight to the tune of the devil playing his fiddle. The real fiddler goes down to the cellar to get some beer and sees this creature with the hoof of a foot playing.

In the hardened days of yore – when with beer and brawn
the knives of Hallingdal – from their sheaths were often drawn
when women to the feast – funeral shirts would bring
with which they would swathe – their dead husbands in
…there once took place a wedding – somewhere in Hemsedal…

may have need to kiss – the bowl’s rim tonight.
Within the belt they’ll duel, – blood running like sap
the vein will need refilling – from the beer casket tap.

Standing in the cellar – he saw a bluish glow
someone sitting on the casket – tuning fiddle, holding bow.
This man held it backwards – tightly to his chest
and as soon as it was tuned – put his fiddle to the test.

There came a song of wonder; – It rang like angry words,
Like steel bite into wood – Like fists rammed into boards.
It jubilantly roamed – Around the darkened cellar hall
And came to a halt – At the sound of a fall

Quietly the fiddler listened – to the mighty flow
It was like the music’s eddies – went down his spine and brow.
He quickly asked the other – “Where did you learn that song?”
The answer: “Don’t you mind that, – But remember it – for long!”

But as the man bent down – Reaching for the tap
He saw a horned hoof – against the casket rap.
He forgot to tap the beer – And ran up to the hall
Just as the men were lifting – The body from the fall

Fanitullen it is called – This wild and haunting spell
And in Hallingdale they play it – And they play it well
And when its tune is singing – to beer and feast and brawn
again knives of Hallingdale – from their sheaths are quickly drawn

Today I had the best nap...you know how sometimes you nap and wake up feeling disoriented and kinda yuck? Didn’t happen. Woke up feeling great.

I sat down on the couch and picked up my phone...a missed call and a text message from my mom. My grandpa passed away this morning, after his battle with different types of cancer.

For not being much in contact with him in recent years, there were a surprising number of tears rolling down my cheeks when I called my mom back.

It’s funny how things hit me sometimes. All I could think about was my sweet grandmother losing the only man she ever loved. That, and the way Grandpa used to thump me in the back of the head when I got too wiggly at church.

And so, we get to take a trip to Oklahoma to put an old cowboy to rest.

Somedays, this site needs a "Compassion" button. "Like" just isn't quite the right thing.

Praying for you and your family, C.
