I dunno... When I'm with my friends and family, just hanging out and chatting and probably eating, it seems each of us has more of ourselves when we share ourselves with each other than we do when we're alone. But maybe that's just me.
But that quote reminds me of a song on an album my mother used to have.

The first verse is basically what the singer feels her friends are saying to her, and the chorus (I quit, I give up, nothing's good enough for anybody else...) is her response to it.
